  • "Mouthwatering menu.

Difficult to get early momentum - last year's top three in our first four matches - but might be better to get these games in early before the big guns settle.

With the huge new TV cash deal coming into effect 2013/14 (when the bottom team will reportedly get more cash than Man City got as Champions last season) the financial gap between the Prem and the rest will get ever wider - so survival in 2012/13 is vital for the long term.

We look in reasonable shape striker-wise, but hopefully we'll get some news soon about much needed strengthening in midfield/defence.

Back to the menu - the optimist in me sees a delicious doughnut; the pessimist sees the hole. This year my lucky Buddha will be getting grovelling attention from 1st July latest."

Saints will kick off their 2012/13 Barclays Premier League season away to champions Manchester City.

The club have been handed a baptism of fire on their return to the top flight, with a visit to the Etihad Stadium on August 18, although that date could be changed if the game is picked for television.

Saints’ first home game is against Wigan, on August 25.

That is followed by two daunting fixtures, firstly at home to Manchester United, before they travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal.

Saints will finish their season at home to Stoke on May 19.

Other highlights include a first reunion with former manager Alan Pardew, as Newcastle are scheduled to visit St Mary’s on November 24, before the return game on February 23.

Saints are away to Fulham for the traditional Boxing Day fixture, while New Year’s Day sees them at home to Arsenal.

Saints will visit Anfield on December 1, while they will travel to Champions League winners Chelsea on December 15.

The trip to Old Trafford is scheduled for January 29.
