Saints start at Man City Saints start at Man City

Saints will kick off their 2012/13 Barclays Premier League season away to champions Manchester City.

The club have been handed a baptism of fire on their return to the top flight, with a visit to the Etihad Stadium on August 18, although that date could be changed if the game is picked for television.

Saints’ first home game is against Wigan, on August 25.

That is followed by two daunting fixtures, firstly at home to Manchester United, before they travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal.

Saints will finish their season at home to Stoke on May 19.

Other highlights include a first reunion with former manager Alan Pardew, as Newcastle are scheduled to visit St Mary’s on November 24, before the return game on February 23.

Saints are away to Fulham for the traditional Boxing Day fixture, while New Year’s Day sees them at home to Arsenal.

Saints will visit Anfield on December 1, while they will travel to Champions League winners Chelsea on December 15.

The trip to Old Trafford is scheduled for January 29.

The full fixture list is printed below. Alternatively, visit our dedicated fixtures page.

Absolutely. That is a better final run in than QPR had last season and they did OK..just. However I think we will not be worried by relegation, far from it.

The opening few are going to be tough, but then again if you want to be in the premier league that's what you must get used to.

A year ago we were all wondering how we would fair up against the Championship teams. It's just the same now.

Maybe a year from now we will be wondering what it will be like playing in the Champions League. Dream on, but you have to have faith, and believe.

We are in this league on merit, never forget that.

A baptism of fire for the first month of the season. But the end of season run in seems ok. We will be fine this season. The positive for us is that we our boys will be fresh for the start of the new season, where as Man City players may be still a bit tired after the Euro's!

For those that may remember, a few of us walked to Wembley for the JPT, raising a goodly amount of cash en route. Who fancies a stroll from SMS to "Citeh" for a bit of Charity.....

Or for those that don't you could always join the Pompey team as they walk from Skatesville to Bournemouth, not that charity will be on their agenda, more the fact that no one can afford a team bus.

Mouthwatering menu.

Difficult to get early momentum - last year's top three in our first four matches - but might be better to get these games in early before the big guns settle.

With the huge new TV cash deal coming into effect 2013/14 (when the bottom team will reportedly get more cash than Man City got as Champions last season) the financial gap between the Prem and the rest will get ever wider - so survival in 2012/13 is vital for the long term.

We look in reasonable shape striker-wise, but hopefully we'll get some news soon about much needed strengthening in midfield/defence.

Back to the menu - the optimist in me sees a delicious doughnut; the pessimist sees the hole. This year my lucky Buddha will be getting grovelling attention from 1st July latest.

Personally think its a f£%k^ng disgraful fixture list. They should be produced with the major of tv coverage pre-arranged. How many of those Sat-Sun kickoff's will turn into mid-week evening starts. Looks like us overseas fans are busy checking home visits against the fixture list. I'm just glad UK school half-term will make a trip to Newcastle a real possibility.

It comes to something when it's better to plan for the long-haul away trips because it's easier to get tickets.

Nothing worse than planning or even booking a trip, then realising it's going to be too hard to get tickets or the match has been rescheduled.

Anyone know the long-range weather forcast for Newcastle next February?

To me there's no doubt that we'll win the league this year. The only real question is what 'brand' of football we'll use to achieve that. Nicola's spoken a lot about 'the Southampon style' becoming a big thing in football and this is great. But the trouble is I've a terrible worry he wants us playing like Spain/Barcelona. I don't know about you but I find them unbelievably boring to watch. I'm not saying I want to watch Danny Shittu hoofing it up to Peter Crouch every week but there's something slightly wearing about watching 900 leisurely five-yard passes in a one game.

It's a bit like in The Matrix when Agent Smith explains to Neil (or whatever Keanu Reeves' character is called) that the first matrix was rejected by mankind because it was so nice and pleasant that people got bored and couldn't handle it.

We have to play all the teams at some point I guess but you have to say 4/5 points from these opening 4 games would be a fantastic result.

Looking forward to Newcastle at our place - Pards deserves a good reception, Away at Liverpool was always a great away game too.

Hello mate, how's it going?

Tell me, all this 'Poopey till I die' stuff - what happens if the club dies first? Do all three of you have to commit suicide? Maybe drive your caravans off a cliff? Anyway, good luck against the Cherries (silly name) you can compare tales of administration.
If the club dies first will it donate its organs to large organs like Phylis?

Their passing and movement off the ball are how I would LOVE to see us playing.

Barca are also one of the most hard working teams you will see. I know they normally have he ball, but look at how they close teams down when they don't have it, quickly getting the ball back.

Remember their passing game is designed to move defences out of position for the killer through ball.

Nicola Cortese is about to put in a bid for portsmouth that will eclipse Chainrai's and the Trust's.
The plan is for you to be run as a Southampton B side so that our youngsters can gain vital first team experience. This does mean a rebranding though which envolves a name change to Solent Saints, the ground to be called The Dell and obviously Red and White stripes will be worn. The only bad news for you lot is you wont be able to gain promotion from league 1.

Must admit it's prettier than my idea ie get seven extremely fat blokes to surround the ball and then shuffle it, in a closed circle, all the way into the opposition goal. (extremely fat blokes also to block goal when on defensive duties). Ugly but I do think my scenario would take 3 points off Barca - indeed would beat them approx 16-2 every time.

Nope! Seany has it right.

We stuffed them 6-3 in 1996/7 with Egil Ostenstad bagging 3 (later changed to 2 because some Manure muppet touched one on it's way into the net), Eyal Berkovic got 2 and then there was that deft Le God lob over Peter Schmeichel.

The previous season (I think), we had led them 3-0 at half time and Alex blamed the score on their grey (third-choice) shirts. So, they changed them and, taking just the second half, promptly thrashed us 1-0.

What was funny about it was that it happened during the period when their marketing had reached new bounds of exploitation and they were turning out new over-priced kits as fashion statements every six months.

As one commentator said at the time, 'it's one thing thrusting a new kit on us every half a season, but every half a match is something else.'

Can't wait to stay up until about 1am after Saints have been on Match of the Day to get a 10 second glimpse of how sh1te both sides are and how small and quiet the mongy crowd are....f'cking priceless!!!

Run out of your medication again, you must be more careful, Question, would you rather see your Team at the bottom of the Premier League after one game, or would rather be broke and playing against Bournemouth?
I would rather be playing bournemouth, the premier league has ruined football
No numbnuts, the likes of YOU and your club have ruined football.

If your sorry excuse for a pub team had operated within its means you just may not have ended up in the brown stuff, but no. You had to break the bank, rip off those businesses that couldn't have afforded to lose £10 let alone thousands and bought a trophy!

Has it ever occured to you deadheads just how many people possibly lost their livelihoods and homes because of Portsmuffs actions, you reneged on one CVA (20p in the £) and now you want to offer another insult (2p in the £) so tell me have you no shame?

Personally I dont want to see the likes of you go into liquidation, that would be the easy way out! Better to witness the endless struggle and constant humiliation, for us its the best entertainment in town after watching the Saints!

See your back again Phil to supply us with more of your intellectual opinions.
I see on another of your slightly more rational posts that you like the idea of you playing
Bournemouth, we have got at least that in common.
Also you appear not to be too keen on the operation of the Premier league.
Lucky for you and us, that you lot are not in it to polute it further.
Yeh, there are others , they will be found out.
Maybe, you may be playing them also, soon.

it's the hundred years of pidgeon poop that is holding the loft (sorry stadium) together.
let's hope they enjoy history because very soon that's all they will be.
and in 10 years time when the next generation of kids are becoming interested in football and enquire why can't they watch premier league football like southampton, brighton bournemouth and salisbury. what lies will you tell them?

So the boys return for pre-season training on the28th of June. Sir Nigel hopes to have at least another two new lads in by then. However he has blown the rumours out of the water, buy hinting that the Echo list is off the mark. I have a feeling that it will be some players that either we have never heard of , or some players who we have never been linked with us. Nigel once again has said on the website that we will be told after the deal is done behind closed doors.

As long as I'm still in Edinburgh next spring, I'll be well up for the Newcastle & Sunderland matches - only a tenner on the train :-)

Oh Phillip, Phillip, Phillip
I remember once upon a time when a set of premier league poopey fans were gloating about being in the premier league when we were where you are now. I seem to recal a cup tie in which a league one saints team were beaten 4-1. I think that scoreline may seem slightly less funny when you get beaten in your Shitehole by the same margin by the mightly Bournemouth. Put your time and effort into a more worthwhile cause ie holding a cakesale or sponsored silence to raise money to ensure that Poopey can afford to have a team to at least make it to the field on that Fcucking funny day.

"a visit to the Etihad Stadium on August 18, although that date could be changed if the game is picked for television". Now that summarises in a nutshell why this season is going to be a nightmare for us true supporters. I love being in the Premier League, I love all the TV money coming to our club, but we don't matter any more. To travel affordably to Manchester I need to book my train ticket in advance. What time should I travel? Will the game kick off at 3pm or 12.30, or 5.30? OK, make long weekend of it (plenty to see and do in Manchester, after all), and book a hotel for Friday night and Saturday night. Then what if the game is rescheduled to Sunday or to Monday night? The last 2 years have been marvellous but I don't think I'll be at many away games this season.

I wish it was only a tenner from Strasbourg.

I just hope that (as others have hinted), they (Sky and co) don't decide to move it to a 5pm kick off on the Sunday. And, if they do, fans get plenty of notice.

It started happening with Boro at the end of last season and things can only be worse this year.

Hopefully see you in Newcastle.

Crossley, you will know the TV Fixtures pretty early actually, usually by the middle of July at the latest for the first 3 months matches. Hope you are able to sort your transport arrangements out and enjoy the Premiership, the Saints deserve it, always been my 2nd team even after over 45 years of suffering with MCFC, think we may have turned the corner now ;-) . Good luck!!

Man City reduced our ticket allocation for the last game at Maine Road - we should remind the Prem League of that and ask for a bigger allocation for this start. Good time to play a big club before they really get rolling!
As I recall Man City were punished for flauting the rules.
MCFC was fined heavily and ordered to allow Saints fans in for half price for the next game at City - which incidently was at the new City of Manchester stadium (as it was called then).
I am a born and bred City fan and I was very unimpressed that my club treated another club with such disdain. The last game of the season was in fact a wash out. The expected large number of home fans didn't turn out for the last ever game at Maine Road. Oasis were supposed to have been there as part of the celebrations (big deal unless you particularly like Oasis!) I'm not sure about this but I believe that City didn't win the game. Can anybody confirm that?
