Le Tiss: Saints will make light of tough start

Matt Le Tissier Matt Le Tissier

MATT Le Tissier believes Nigel Adkins won’t be troubled by Saints’ intimidating start to the Premier League season.

The club visit title holders Manchester City on the opening day of the campaign, while they have Manchester United at home and Arsenal away in their first four games.

With Wigan also visiting St Mary’s in that period, Le Tissier admits he would be delighted to see Saints come through that run with four points or more.

But he reckons Adkins will be aiming higher.

“If we were to get four or five points from those first four games I think most Saints fans would say that’s not a bad return,” said Le Tissier.

“But, obviously, Nigel will be a bit more positive than that. He’ll probably want eight or nine.

“In fact, knowing Nigel, he’s probably looking for 12.”

Despite the difficult beginning, Le Tissier believes there is plenty of reason for hope when assessing how the fixtures fall.

“It’s a tough start, but it gives us a chance at the back end,” he said.

“We’ve got quite a difficult December, January and February.

“But certainly the back end gives us a bit of hope.”

For all the debate about how tough the schedule is, Le Tissier is just pleased to see Saints back among the elite of English football.

“It’s brilliant,” he said. “I’m not going to complain much about the start, because it’s just nice to be back in that league again.”

We have a difficult Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, March, April, May - Wouldn't have it any different, this league is where we belong. Onwards and upwards, revise the 5 year plan, Europe the target. COYR !!!!!

I am so happy we are back in the Prem..... but after the last 2 seasons have gotten used to that confident 'we are going to win our next game feeling' I must admit i am a little anxious as memories of the relegation battles past re appear in the back of my mind. Anyway i am sure we will surprise many (but not every week) and i look forward to listening on the radio every match from here in Austria.

There is an argument that says Man. City could be a little nervous. They will want to get off to a good start and maybe see Saints as a potential banana skin. After all Saints will be up for it at the start to lay down a marker and let's be honest it is a game with nothing to lose and everything to gain as realistically nobody will expect anything other than a resounding home win. Even a narrow defeat could be seen as a small moral victory.

There's also the argument that Citeh's players may not have recovered fully from the Euro's whereas Saints players will have hopefully had a good pre-season and will be up for it.

Either way, can't wait for the season to start and buoyed still further by stadium development plans shown on DVD pack sent with Season Ticket.

The future is very bright - it's definitely Red & White!! COYRS!!

playing 3 of the big sides before they have a chance to have got into their stride. Realistically 4 points or more would be a real bonus. Our run in to me looks fairly good, and I think Norwich, Swansea and West Brom may suffer with their managerial changes. I think there will be several teams that we can compete with on level terms,

There is far too much caution and worry in these comments.

Be confident. Have faith.

We will beat teams in this league. We will not have the team that got promoted, it will be better, stronger, more skilfull and we will be right up there, probably from the start.

Stop this whimpering I tell you !! For 27 years we were feared by every big club when they came to our ground and we were always good value away as well. It will be the same again.

So cut the humility and stop tugging the forlock. Stand upstraight and demand recognition and respect.

The Saints have arrived.

I too got my season ticket yesterday. Love the visions Nicola has for the club. He is clearly passionate about further successes. Love the bit where the DVD says promotion to the premiership is only the start of the next part of journey. The presentation pack and letter from chairman with the swipe card ticket made me feel valued as part of the club.

Sorry to hear of the bad back. This must colour your view of the world. No problem. Get well soon.

We must all raise our spirits.

The Saints are in the best position we could possibly be at this time. We are back. Rejoice !!

As for England, I can't get too excited just yet as we have been a tad lucky. Luck happens, usually for Germans, but maybe it's our turn?

However, if Chelsea can win the Champions league after being outclassed and outplayed in the quarter, semi and Final then anything is possible. Remember it wasn't that long ago that Greece won the European competition !! The only good thing about that was that Portugal lost. When are they going to stop thinking they are any good? You need more than an arrogant ballet dancer for your star player to be rated highly and that's all they've got.

But anything can happen.

Alicescat had an abcess on his head last week and was on anti-biotics. The wound meant that he had to have part of his head shaved but its growing back. I must say he's looking a bit tufty, not unlike Rooneys new herb garden head thatch.
For Alicescats loyal followers (and they are legion) Alicescat is looking good.

Breathe in and repeat after me THE SAINTS ARE BACK ... Let the top table be cleared for the return of the masters of the football universe !!

For me, predictions for the season ahead are based on who we sign in the off-season. 4-5 good hungry or highly experienced 'winners' and my expectation will be more positive than now but that's only based on it all being completely unknown. After all, no-one had us in the Premier League this year as a prediction so its a shot in the dark at how we'll do this coming season.

That's better. I (we) were getting a little worried about you.

I think all men of a certain age suffer a mid-close-season crisis (aka the 'it's-the-bl00dy-cri

-the-bucket-years-ag

And, England fans across France will agree with me when I add that today is a hell of a great day to be living on this side of La Manche; you can feel the pain in every 'bonjour' and 'comment allez-vous'.

The Man City team won't even know who we are, so will come into this game completely unprepared.

I am sure it will be scheduled for TV too, so Ricky and Adam to get one each and Super Kelv to make a great last minute save to take the 3 points! (clearly I have let Man City have one goal - perhaps even a own goal as we were feeling sorry for them) ;-)
