Saints won't listen to offers for Shaw

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw

First published in Saints News

Saints are set to emphatically reject any approach for teenage left back Luke Shaw.

The 16-year-old is interesting Champions League winners Chelsea, who could test Saints’ resolve with a £4m offer.

However, Saints are keen to send out a clear message by turning down the offer outright and refusing to enter into any discussions regarding Shaw.

The 16-year-old, who was signed aged eight in the time of former academy chief Huw Jennings, is a hot property and has been watched by a host of Premier League scouts.

Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United have all had Shaw extensively watched, as have Chelsea.

It is the Blues though that could be the first to make a serious move but it appears they will be totally unsuccessful.

Well done Saints, IMO in the next few years this young lad will be the hottest property in football, I bet it will be a few more '0's added to the offer.

I really hope you do well in the EPL this season.

Watch out for the greedy rich clubs in the top 10, they will want to nick your best players and unless the Saints can replace with as good or better you will struggle.
Look at Reading( and other newly promoted clubs), first season brilliant, then sold some key players and it all went pear shaped.

It is not just the greedy top ten clubs, some of your players will be hoping for a nice transfer fee and huge weekly wages too, plus the fame of playing for a super rich club.

Best of luck you Saints...hope Arsenal do not give you a hard time and a lesson in football.
Theo, Ox, go easy on them!!!

I'm interested to see what NA does with this lad next season. Will he give him a shot or loan him out for a few months and see how he gets on??
If he doesn't loan him out then I think NA will be thinking about giving him a chance, what will that mean for Dan Harding, especially if we sign Buttner aswell.

Harding was inspired in our League One campaign, but he started to look shaky in the Championship. In fairness he was used out of position a lot last year, but I think he would be badly beaten up at Premiership level. Too slow and not tricky enough going forward from deep.

SFC are spending 15 million on a new training facility that will be the envy of the Premier league. Our young players will be much better off with SFC than the money grabbing top 6 clubs. The way forward is to continue the policy of bringing through the youth. This is nothing new - Shearer, Wallaces, Le God- only now we don't need to sell. Hands off our talent.

I was told a story about an U18 game last season. A number of scouts from other PL clubs turned up to watch Shaw play LEFT BACK. However Saints played him in that game as a right winger.
He looked equally at home playing out there cutting in from the right on his left foot.
.
This made those PL scouts very upset because they had been asked to write a report on his qualities as a left back.
.
I understand Saints did it for the long term development of the kid in that he would know first hand what options a right winger had went cutting in from the right with his left foot, it was all part of his development as a left back. However those scouts were p***ed off with Saints.

I'm on the fence with Danny Fox, thought he was a great signing last season.
But undecided if he will make the grade in the Prem. Can he cope with the abundance of quality right wingers that the Premier League has to offer?

Remember what was said about RL when we were promoted to the Campionship. One never knows how they will cope. Surprising how pressure forces the best out of people.

"£15 million on the training ground" Hysterical!
"Will be the hottest property in English football" Guffoar! He has great potential but come on, have you seen all the other lads at other clubs? As somebody who regularly watches games at Marchwood he will be valued a little bit behind JWP.
"...pledged to have 50% of players come from the academy" Um no we haven't,we have said that is an aspiration.
Come on peeps up your game its all a bit playground dont you think.
BTW, as an opinion/guess I would think Arsenal are most likely to knock hardest on NC's door, and like everybody else I will be very interested to see his stance.

Hi LM,

let me just say I am a fan and dont claim to be an expert, but as you have asked for my opinion here you go:
Obviously the 4 lads who have been promoted to the 1st team are all exciting because they, along with Chambo, were the best of a VERY strong year group. James Ward Prowse is my personal fav because he plays in the middle and is very intelligent. Took his goal at Coventry so calmly last year when still really only a schoolboy and numerous appearances for England. Of the younger ones Scott Sinclairs younger brother is progressing well and there is also a very young striker who plays in older age groups but he is only 13 so I dont think its fair to name him really. Get up there and have a look.

Ha ha, wot is this a quiz for fan of the year??
For financial reasons Im afraid I have to pick n choose the away trips. I do about 5 a year or maybe more if we have a good cup run. I try and tick off grounds I have never been to before, so my targets this year are: Man City, Anfield, Goodison, St James Park, The Brittania, Stadium of Light. Done all the others.

I'm not sure that the Forum Police have formulated a coefficient for such a complicated equation. We need to start appointing members to the 'My opinion is more valid than yours because....' Committee. I vote for St. Retford, he has impeccable taste in music. Fatty x Fat Tw@t need not apply.

My opinion is more important than yours because I am George Chivers and you are Puppy Saint. So therefore I should be on the committee. But there again my name isn't George Chivers and your name isn't Puppy Saint. So, therefore neither of us should be on the committee because we are not brave enough to use our own names when we state our 'more valid than yours opinions'.

However, Fatty x Fat Tw@t should be co-opted on by all of us because he is brave enough to use his own name! And is clearly a natural leader.

So,I propose a committee of one. And in my opinion, because my opinion is of course more valid than your opinion you should second my proposal.

Fans who think they are above others just because they have a season ticket really get on my goat.
I would love a season ticket and could easily afford one. However, I work long hours and would rather spend my spare time with the wife and kids.
What about supporters who can't afford one or those supporters who are in the Armed Forces??? Are their opinions less valued???
My old man played for the Saints along side the likes of Shilton, Mark Wright, Townsend, Case, Le Tissier and Alan Shearer was his apprentice. How valued is my opinion??

The moral of the story is these bigger fish think they can just help themselves to whatever they want even when it's intended for others.

Nice one Hobson 1982. I remember your Dad playing for us. He was a good wee player, who scored a hatrick against Man City at Maine Road. I also remember him scoring a hatrick against Bournemouth when they beat them 9 nil. We need not sell any of our young players. I a believe with in the next two sesons Shaw and Stevens will be our full backs. They will be our Dodd and Baneli.

But are you a season ticket holder?
Only since 1974 ( I was a very young starter in the Chocolate Box :)) but not sure what that has to do with watching the Academy lads. It is very rewarding and at the moment its free. Not sure how long that will last tho, we do have a very astute businessman in charge.
Then you get double points for your opinion as a season ticket holder. Do you go to away games? More than 10?
What kudos do you get if you went to more away games last season than home games (10+) including games up north in midweek?

How much for going to Biel last pre-season? Bu99ered that I can't get to Evian this year.

And I was there when Gordon Hobson scored on his debut. So, despite my relatively limited attendance in recent years, I should still be pushed up the list a bit, no?

As for Retford's musical taste, Puppy, he seems a bit elctro-plastic to me, but then, if he can team up with David Guetta and turn Oh When the Saints into an Ibiza classic, he might get my vote (if I'm allowed one, that is).

Hobson82, your Dad was one of Chris Nicholl's inspired signings. He surprised a lot of people with some great performances. Hope he's well.

I can't remember what year it was, or why the game was played, BUT, I was at Fratton Park when we beat them 7 - 0 . I was one of the foolish people near the front and didn't realise that quite a considerable number had left before the end of the game as the Poopey cretins were waiting outside with ill intent towards us!
Still got out with all body parts intact and worked down there a few weeks later and had a brilliant time winding up some skaaates.
happy memories and I have a season ticket this season. I know this doesn't give me any points because I didn't have one for the last three seasons cos I couldn't afford it and only went to about ten games each season and only 3 away last season. I will try to keep up though.

What is right now a player with enormous potential and hot property doesn't necessarily guarantee they will be a success. There is a message here that Saints are trying to do and that is develop the best youngsters into the 1st team when they are ready. The ones who will make it into the 1st team and help the team be a success are the best ones. There is no point in selling them if we establish ourselves as a Premierleague club.

Oxo might not have gone if he had been playing last season with us in the Premiership and got to go to the Euros. As long as we were looking to kick on and develop as a club in the way NC and NA want he could have fullfilled his potential with Saints. Unfortunately the Euros came at the wrong time and Saints weren't playing in the top division.

JWP, Shaw, Stephens are the players I expect to push the hardest for places on the bench next season.

I can now ask and comment because I have bought mine, even if it hasn't been delivered, the money has gone out of my account!!
And of course Saints are saying the shirt is popular, but how many are being sold?
I am waiting for the white shirt, I think it is better, and are we going to get a third shirt? Yellow ? Black ? I am a minority, but I liked the NUFC gold + yellow stripe from a couple of years ago !

Considering I've never even heard of either club or player, Sky News seem to be making a ridiculous fuss about Geneva Particles getting hold of Higgs Boson.
apparently very very quick going down the middle
Far too small for a striker.
agreed also tends to go round in circles
probably only to be used for impact.
Tends to garner unnecesary headlines too, never on the sport pages !
also overpriced at about £25billion

Does anyone know where I can find the training schedule for staplewood? I have had a quick look on the web, but don't seem to able to find anything. I would be grateful if someone could help out, as I haven't been yet, and thought this might be a nice trip out for my kids before the season starts.
