Alexander Büttner's proposed move to Southampton looking 'uncertain'

Alexander Büttner Alexander Büttner

VITESSE Arnhem have revealed the transfer of Alexander Büttner to Saints is now "uncertain".

The Dutch side have blamed demands made by a "third party" which they say they will not be pressurised into accepting.

Vitesse have confirmed that Saints have acted "absolutely correctly" in their approach to the deal and are not to blame if it falls through.

A statement from the club said: "The transfer of Alexander Büttner to Southampton FC is now uncertain.

"Last Friday Vitesse came to an agreement with Southampton about the transfer of Alexander Büttner to the Premier League club.

"Because Büttner himself also agreed on his personal conditions with Southampton FC, Vitesse was in the supposition that the transfer was a fact, with the proviso that Büttner would pass a medical examination.

"However, in the course this weekend the player informed Vitesse via his agent that a third party had a supplementary demand towards the club.

"Vitesse gave to understand to the player that it would not comply with that demand, since it was applied in retrospect and Vitesse will not be pressurised.

"Vitesse is disappointed about the course of things, all the more because Vitesse negotiated with Southampton FC on the player's request.

"Southampton FC has taken up an absolute correct position and is not to blame for the possible fall through of the transfer. Vitesse have also tried all possible to keep the set deal going."

Simple question. Does he want to be on the bus or not. Sounds like more greedy agents wanting to get their 10 cents worth.

can't help but feel that agents are a cancer in the game that need to be eliminated. how is it that over 90% of the population can find and settle on employment terms without the need of a third party interfering yet footballers seem incapable of communicating with their existing club that they want to leave then join a new club without having some greedy agent wanting their cut.

To all those waiting to receive your season ticket who bought them online.
Ordered mine last week online but a glitch in the system meant that only £1 was taken from my bank account for 2 season tickets. Thought I'd got lucky;) Rang them to find out when they will be sent, was told of a problem.
Sorted now though :)
If this has happened, You will need to give them your details again so they can take the correct amount.
They said that they will be contacting others that it affected, from today.

Makes you wonder whether this is the sort of player we want. If he does join is his agent just going to push for a move to a bigger club after one good season? I don't think it would be from Ajax as the club would have known about any sell-on clause. I think Vitesse are right and shouldn't agree to pay this extra fee as Buttner seems to have requested to be allowed to join us, but now wants them to pay for him leaving, doesn't make sense. Player power is huge, it's ridiculous, just look at the RVP situation where he wanted £5million just for signing a new contract.

Yes I thought this too. If so it is poor handling from Vitesse who should already be aware that a sell on clause exists and that they owe a percentage of any future transfer money for the player to the club they signed him from.

Doubt it's linked to Ajax, because everyone would be aware of that. Sounds like its related to his contract with his agent which neither SFC or Vitesse would know about unless told. Either Buttner pays it himself or everyone moves on.

Surely if there was a third party that was owed money it would be written into his contract. If this is an agreement with the player and third party then he either needed to make everyone aware upfront of settle this directly himself.

Don't think this will scupper the deal. I also read somewhere that Buttner can play at right back so sounds like he has decent versatility that we need and would hampen the development of Shaw.

How soon would it be before he was making demands here. Still NC is no fool, might just cut him off and look elsewhere.

The player signs a contract with a sports agency firm and it's not too easy to get out of.
You can't just sack them you have to buy yourself out.
I think the player and his agent might have been surprised by a little clause in the contract that may have been triggered by his initial call up to the national side or something. The agent's manager may have spotted this.
