Record signing Jay ready for Saints debut

Jay Rodriguez Jay Rodriguez

Saints fans are set to get their first glimpse of record signing Jay Rodriguez.

The £7m striker, signed from Burnley this summer, is make his St Mary’s bow during tomorrow’s Markus Liebherr Memorial Trophy.

Nigel Adkins is expected to follow the same format as last season and field a different side for both of the 45-minute matches against Anderlecht and Arsenal.

The Saints squad have been back in pre-season training for a couple of weeks and have been doing ball work as well as fitness drills.

However, this will be their first taste of competitive action since finishing the season at the end of April.

So Adkins will be wary of not throwing players too much into the fray immediately.

That means he faces a decision on how best to spilt his squad between the two games, but can at least use 22 players as a bare minimum.

Saints will be hoping they can also field their other new summer signing, Steven Davis.

The central midfielder joined on a three-year deal after rejecting the chance to have his contract transferred to a newco Rangers.

However, the move has got mired in some red tape after the SFA refused to grant an international transfer certificate.

The matter is now with FIFA who are expected to grant a temporary licence to allow Davis to continue with Saints while they rule on the wider matters.

Don't want Man City terrified. We want a few teams to take us for granted. Worked last season and by the time everyone woke up it was too late.
Wish I could get to ML Memorial tomorrow. Hope its a good day for everyone. Result less important than peformance and remembering a good man.

Aye, can people please remember this is about celebrating Marcus so please no petty booing of ex-Saints players? It's about JOY (ie binge drinking) and good times.

I wish to make it clear to FIFA that my employment of a mini Hadron Collider round the St Marys' pitch perimeter during match breaks tomorrow is purely to enable fellow Saints fans to be among the first to see the famous God Particle.

My very long odds spot bet, placed with numerous reputable Far East bookies, that Saints will concede the first goal as a result of Kelvin Davis's left testicle mysteriously exploding at a critical moment is not connected in any way to my scientific demonstration.

Part of the reason I would like to go is to booooo AOC, can't justify £25 for it though. shame

Could be a pretty poor turn out tomorrow. A lot of people put off by the ticket price.

I've got a long drive tomorrow and am wondering if anybody has had a report on the pitch is it all definitely on? Thanks

I'm really looking forward to j rod and sharp. I think it will be Ricky and sharpe against arsenal. Jay rod and another against anderlecht.

Honestly i don't think £25 is much to see three matches....plus the fair.....plus the Olympic Torch. I think its a bargain!!! COYR

HMCG Operational Order for the 2012 Olympics

£25 FOR 2.5 Hours entertainment. I’m not sure that you could go bowling for much less.

An Adult and child ticket is £25.

To take a child to Marwell it would cost about £29 or £32 if you are gracious enough to add a donation.

I am not defending Saints pricing policy, just saying things cost money.

Cinema will be about £17 if you want cheaper. Or if you want cheaper still, you could stay at home and listen to Dave Merrington constantly wax lyrical about the athleticism of Kelvin Davies for free

Has any clever fellow invented a J-Rod song yet? I need the lyrics before the game or I'll be "mmmmmhhmmhmmhmla Jay Rod mmmm hhh la" as it comes out the Northam and I'm 3 seconds behind and can't hear properly.

All sport would have to be cancelled in the UK before the perfect carpet that is the SMS pitch was unfit to play. I'm willing to bet we water it between matches.

The papers always go on about it as though it's some sort of national epidemic. They never seem to mention that it's also a bit of a laugh.

My brother in law (Palace season ticket holder) just text me saying that Clyne is a cracking player and would be great business if we get him. I think people need to chillax a bit and put some trust in the guys that won us back to back promotions. They seem to be searching the right channels.
