Southampton considering £3.5m bid for Scott Dann
11:53am Monday 23rd July 2012 in Saints News
Scott Dann
Saints are reportedly weighing up a £3.5m move for Scott Dann.
The Blackburn defender is being chased by Saints’ guests at St Mary’s on Saturday, Dutch giants Ajax, but Nigel Adkins could offer him a chance to remain in England.
Dann had been expected to leave Ewood Park this summer following Blackburn’s relegation from the Premier League , but clubs have reportedly been put off by a £6m price tag.
However, it seems Saints may be confident of negotiating a better deal.
The 25-year-old has twice been relegated from the top flight but would provide vital cover in the centre of defence with Adkins potentially set to try and recruit two centre halves before the start of the season.

I think Nigel likely wants Dann to renew his partnership with Korky the Cat on his return from the Olympics.
A number of posters on here have been saying we need a no-nonsense centre back. I hope we get Dann. I'd love to see some of those prima-donna Prem forwards up against a Saint who can lift a cow with one hand; has his pillow filled with rubble and shaves with a blowtorch.

.
When Saints got relegated they were held to ransome and the players were sold at discounted prices.

I suspect some people are confusing Dann with Jonah. Jonah was in the Dandy with Dann and of course everything Jonah touched went down. However, Dann wasn't unlucky. Indeed he wasn't really Desperate either - he got that name after first appearing in the Dandy as a 'Desperado'. Jay Rod will prove to be a fantastic buy . So unselfish, good in the air and can play out wider or down the middle. I feel NA has so many options in how it plays it now. RL with JR one side and Adam the other would be my thought with Morgan, Davis and one of Chappers, Punch or Ward Prowse ( who works so hard ).
Now having seen them in the flesh pre season I am really confident. 10th place for me

Just back from Evian and I think in Stephens and Seabourne we nearly have enough cover. Hooiveld & Stephens who played together in the 1st half were really excellent. Against a team ranked 9th in France Saints were so in control. Along with Jose & Seabourne there is nearly enough there already.

I haven't got a clue.
Did we play with three at the back in France with wing backs? Or a flat back 4?
My call based on last season, our new signings, plus whoever else we get in, is 12th at best, but more likely 15th.
Not sure about Dann.

Flat back 4 both halves
The other revelation was Clyne. Only 15-20 mins but fantastic. Don't want to get too excited but looked liked an Ashley Cole type full ( less attitude i hope )
By the way I think both Buttner and
Jens are on the way here !.
Sorry forgot Corkie.

I would not pay any more than three million for Danns. I would hope we would set are sights abit higher and go for a European centre back with international experience. Danns does not tick the box for me. One things is for certain our chairman will not play over the odds for an average player. I think we will get Lens but in will be nearer the six million mark. Butland deal is none starter. We got our man last week. Looking at his stats for last season he kept 7 clean sheets in a row.

Hmmm, not sure about this one. I believe that NC and NA know what they are doing but I sincerely hope that this one is just a rumour. Two successive relegations for this player doesn't exactly fill me with optimism.
So the rest of the 10 players played no part then?
He,s a good player and personally if he ends up a saints player I,ll be happy.
And if we get lens as well ,Mrs tugboat and the nipper, are on for a meal with all the trimmings.Cheapskate I aint.......
By the way ,the post by confucious was pure class.

Would like to see Lens here sounds a good quality buy.
Palace are going to tribunal saying Saints offer for Clyne is a joke.
Is Danns a better player than what we have?
So far Rodriguez and Clyne are both young players who will I believe be special. Davies is the player that can fire our midfield. Gazza is one for the future I think.
As for team selections and midfield, it will change , I think they will change depending on who we play.
Certain players suit certain situations.
Ajax will be a very difficult test next Saturday but will be a good bench marker.

Going by the friendly matches Nige seems intent on playing 4-3-2-1
this coming season, but I haven't been able to figure out why yet or how Dann would fit in - and Nige won't tell me. Indeed on my first follow-up phone call to the club today I was told by an underling to try and pull my lower lip over my head and swallow. On the second call another lickspittle said "If I you have a family, please let Nigel know as he may want to buy one of the puppies.
It worries me that such strange people seem to be holding responsible positions at St Marys - but hey ho there are a lot of oddballs about nowadays.

Premier league teams have been sending scouts to our youth team games for the last 2 years and watching and hoping we would fail so they could pick up lads on the cheap.
Not going to happen and now we are there!
Premier league and the youth team intact and 4 players promoted and more to come.
Looking forward to Alan Hansen saying we won't win anything with kids!

There will be a void without our bitter rivals...but I reckon we'll get over it really really quickly. Their true history can go down as a lesson for all football clubs to take lessons from...and their clown can be their living statue to the blight that was once portsmouth football club.
