Richard Chaplow says he is not leaving Southampton

RICHARD CHAPLOW RICHARD CHAPLOW

Richard Chaplow has insisted he has no intention of leaving Saints, after being linked with a move to Crystal Palace.

A report yesterday suggested the midfielder was set to turn down a switch to the Eagles in order to stay and fight for a place at St Mary’s.

The 27-year-old said he would not be leaving, but revealed he knew nothing of any potential interest from Selhurst Park.

He wrote on Twitter: “I ain't going anywhere 1/ because I don't want and 2/ because saints don't want me to! Can't snub something you know nothing about #baffled”

Chaplow has made 63 appearances for Saints since initially joining on loan in September 2010.

His dynamic presence in midfield proved vital at stages last season, as he played an important role in promotion from the Championship .

Chaplow, who signed permanently in January 2011, is currently in his second spell with the club, having ended the 2005/06 campaign at St Mary’s on loan from West Brom.

The former Burnley trainee faces stiff competition for a place in the team this season, with manager Nigel Adkins having already added ex-Rangers captain Steven Davis to his midfield ranks.

Great news, his genuine excitement on the final day of last season shows he truly cares about the club, we'll need every bit of that next season.

i like chaplow - i also think he has the enthusiasm to succeed but i think his appearances will be limited this year - if we go for 3 in midfield, first choice will be cork, davis and schneiderlain with chaplow and JWP as back up. I would personally like to see Hammond leave as although he has done wonders for us over the last 2 seasons, he is on high wages rumoured to be £9K per week and i dont think is a good enough and b - is 6th choice in the midfield area.

On Saints Player, Nigel said he knew nothing about Chaplow going. News to me, he said. He also said that some players were going to be disappointed when he named his 25 man squad and that players like Barney and Forte were already looking for new clubs.

Finally some football news!! What's going on with the lack of signings?

I think along with CB the RM slot is our weakest postion with Adkins seeming to favour Guly.

Guly has done a job upfront for us and got some important goals from time to time but his effectiveness on the RM has been nothing short of appauling. He's slow on the ball and regularly loses possession.

For me Chaplow should be playing there for the time being. He always gives 100% and has a great delivery into the box. He's always been a fans favourite thinking back to his first spell at the club and it would be a real shame if he didn't get a shot at the Premier League.

On a separate note we really need a top draw CB, RM and possibly even a strong CM to play alongside Schneiderlin.

Chappers biggest problem is staying fit, if he can avoid injuries he will have a part to play.
I hope we do sign a couple more players we are woefully short of players with top level experience.

IMO Chappers was MOTM in several games last season. I won't be surprised if he fights his way into a permanent midfield spot. Cork and Schneiderlain have yet to prove themselves in my book, competition for places is what it's all about. COYR Saints back where we belong!! : )

Chaplow was class til he got injured against Cov away last season never the same player think he will struggle to hold down a starting spot but a good player to have on the bench.

it is reporting on some rumours sites that dickson, barnard and forte have been offered around the clubs to see if any takers. fingers crossed they will be off our books and any money generated from sales would be greatly appreciated, anyone know how much we got for harding in the end.

Adkins again mentions possible signings including goalkeepers (yes, he spoke in the plural) and CB.

Chappers is the man. When fit he's as good as anyone else we've got. He deserves chance to stay fit and prove his quality. If it doesn't work out for him I'm sure a good champ side will pick him up next season. I think it will work for him as there are enough hard games up north where the games are won in midfield and nice art **** football doesn't quite crack the nut. He'll run his legs off and then some. He doesn't need to leave so why should he. A st Mary's favourite on merit. Better than Cork, Spider, Guly, Steeeve and Hammond in my opinion.

I hope when off loading players that we recognise their contribution and don't make it too hard to get the move they want. No need to squeeze out every last penny.

Yes, but at the same time Saints FC is a business, all players are assets and NC wont let compassion get in the way of making money on behalf of the shareholders and the clubs profitability.

I feel for Barnard but hey life goes on.

Chappy is a good squad player IMO. Not technicaly gifted but good to bring on in the latter stages of a match to win the ball and play the simple pass.

Blood and Thunder 10/10 silky skills 5/10

We will need a good work rate and a brave heart on more ocassions than we did last year, for sure

Sounds like you have just described Scott Parker... I'll take that. Chappers should be in the 18 man squad every week IMO

I was hoping Steven Davis has an engine on him as well.
Interesting times for Chappers, I know he has served us well .... But watching him play poorly against Reading at home when it really mattered has left me wondering about the big step up. Controversial thoughts maybe, but I have a niggling doubt .... Hope I’m wrong

Chappers will prove himself to be better for us than Chris Marsden was (which is really saying something.)

We Must keep Chaplow. I have a feeling he's going to get better and better ( still remember his goal against Man United, pure class.)

Also want to point out that his comparison with Marsden is genuine and has nothing to do with the fact that they both have bald heads. If I was doing that I'd have used Karl Pilkington.

On a totally unrelated note, I was met and chatted to Chris Marsdenand Brett Omerod whilst they were still Saints players.

This was during the time when there was a giant daily echo billboard starring Marsden celebrating, entitled 'The Passion' Which Marsden clearly found hilarious and then shook my hand when I divulged that since the billboard went up my brother and me had given him the nickname the passion or 'pash.'

I then askef Brett Omerod why Strachan played him in midfeild when he was a striker. He simply replied -because he's a ****. True story. Must have chatted to them both for about half an hour, whe I decided that I should probably leave them alone Omerod suggested I stay and chat for longer. Thoroughly nice guys. Sorry, just went on a reminiscense rampage there!

If Chappers can't get a starting spot in the pre season friendlies where does that leave him when Davis and Cork return to the squad. We have had JWP getting the nod so far. So with this new team formation of only 3 in midfield I can't see Chappers even making the bench

I agree with some of the comments ref hammond, he should be on his way out, he is no where near premiership standard, and also guly is not a right sided midfielder, i am not his biggest fan, but his best position is just behind the main striker. Good luck to the other 3 guys though. Any news on this youth keeper we are supposedly interested in from everton? NA is saying we need more signings, yes, we do! get a top class CB, GK RM, or let punch play, he seems to have played well preseason and is starting to repay the faith showed in him by the powers that be.

I have mixed feelings about Hammond, we won't know if he is good enough until he has played a few games, he will still be valuable even as Squad player.

You need to have players like Chaplow who will be ready to come in and play when required- just as he was last season.

I agree before that injury he would have been one of the first on the team sheet,we were winning everything then after his injury we had a really bad spell, his passing of the ball and his forward thinking was fantastic I think given the chance he will prove a lot of non believers wrong.COYR

I believe in chappers,he gives 100% every time he pulls a Saints shirt on and hopefully theres no truth about him being let go by the club,as for NA not letting senttiment get in the way of SFC making money i can well believe that as we look back over past seasons and see players put out to pasture and moved on (thats business as they say).
