Saints trio told they can leave

Lee Barnard Lee Barnard

Southampton trio Lee Barnard , Ryan Dickson and Jonathan Forte have been told their futures lie elsewhere by manager Nigel Adkins .

Left back Dickson, 25, and forward player Forte, 26, spent much of last season on loan at Leyton Orient and Notts County respectively.

Barnard joined from Southend in 2010, scoring 23 goals in 62 league appearances, but the 28-year-old striker has been deemed surplus to requirements.

"It's fair to say that (they can leave)," Adkins said.

"There has been interest in them because they are of good quality.

"They are fit but they need to play football as well so everyone is working very hard to create a win, win situation.

"I'd imagine as the month progresses something more concrete will materialise."

Barnard could thrive at a club like Watford or Blackpool I hope so coz he puts in a lot of effort scores his share of goals when picked reminded me of Ormerods efforts for the club

Sorry Lee Barnard hasn't made it. I supported Southend in my youth and still follow them. So have always had a soft spot for Lee. I agree with the 3 comments above, and particularly hope that Lee finds a decent club. as there is still time for him to make another start.
Good luck to Ryan and Jonathan who, frankly, was a strange signing. Never got a real chance.

All three have had a part in our progression, I just hope they all get positive results and find success wherever they go.

Good luck to all 3 guys, let's hope they can find new clubs and help them progress too, well apart from that lot down the road.

Lee's contribution over the past few years has been great and really helped s through the leagues.

I will never forget Jonathan's goals against MK Dons, what a great performance and couple of goals that was!

All the very best lads and thank you so so much.

Heartless Get!

"not good enough for the prem!"

It's not about that, it's about the team Adkins is shaping. They don't fit that's all!

Good luck guys & thanks

I agree that all 3 couldn't have made our premier league squad but as far as Jonathon Forte goes i'll always remember the impact he made against MK dons to rescue the game with 2 goals which gave us the momentum to get promotion from League 1. So thanks to all 3 for their efforts.

Glad to see some positive posts about leaving players for once
Particularly towards Jonathan Forte, never understood why so many people slated him without even seeing him play, sure he was never going to be a first team regular for us but that doesnt make him a poor player, he gave his all when he played for us and would make a decent league 1 player and a wish him, barney and dicko for their contributions towards our rise to the prem
