Lee Barnard Lee Barnard

Saints striker Lee Barnard has joined Bournemouth on loan until January 1.

The 28-year-old was told earlier this summer that he could find a new club, and a move to the League One side has now been agreed.

Are we incapable of selling players? They all seem to go on loan.

It'd be great if Barnard could move to Bournemouth permanently, I think they have promotion potential.

The problem we have is plaYers like Barnard are good league one/poor champ players but are earning high wages so clubs are not prepared to take a gamble on them with icy high wages. Glad to see he is off the books though temporarily

I would love to know why you say Lee is a poor Championship player?

He has hardly played in the Chanpionship!

I think he could easily hold his own in the Championship, I think it was a real shame he had such a troubled year...... I am sure he would have scored for us.

Good Luck Lee, A real hard working, exciting player.... it is a shame the last 12 months went sooooo wrong.

These players won't leave to go to a league one side because our promotion to the PL triggered a nice big wage increase in their contracts.
So the chances are that we will be paying most of his and any other loanees wages.
Therefore Lee, as you are being paid by Southampton it is your duty to score at least 5 goals today against our sworn enemy

Well if he was good enouGh for the champ why is it none of Them wanted him. He will be earning a fortune and will be back as no league one team will be able to afford his wages

He'll get loads of goals in league 1. Hat trick today me thinks. A good player and he did his bit in our return to the top. I'll always keep a lookout for him.

He'll be popular this afternoon! Pompey fans screaming "scummer" at him and Bournemouth fans will probably recall his court case for allegedly bottling a Cherries fan!
Anyway, good luck Lee, grab a brace this arvo and stick Pompey where they belong: bottom of the south coast pile.

Andy, there was an article explaining why some of last seasons squad players were so reluctant to leave.
It said that promotion had triggered big increases in their salaries.
This would mean that unless a club were compared to match these they would stay put or go out on loan and run down their contracts.
It was common knowledge some time ago and I just remember it thats all.
I know nothing about the finer details of anyone contracts.
