Japanese defender Maya Yoshida on verge of joining Southampton

Maya Yoshida Maya Yoshida

Saints are on the brink of signing Japan defender Maya Yoshida.

Saints boss Nigel Adkins completely dismissed the prospect of landing the 23-year-old VVV-Venlo player after Saturday's Barclays Premier League defeat to Wigan.

But it is understood Saints are poised this afternoon to complete what is reportedly a £2million deal inside the next 24 hours.

The npower Championship runners-up are also eyeing three more signings before the transfer window closes on Friday night, on top of putting the finishing touches to a move for Bologna star Gaston Ramirez.

I believe if this happens it will be a good signing. I thought this guy was superb during the Olympics and he is a real talented defender from my (limited) knowledge. I must admit that the Olympics was the first time I had seen him play, but he impressed me.

I think, like in the good old tradition that we will make Friday a real interesting final day of the window. Most deals are done in this week as all the negotiations that have gone on over the summer are finalized.

This will make for a very entertaining transfer window and more importantly in Saints case, a real prospect of an exciting and entertaining side.

Come on you Saints.

Won't make much difference to the outcome sunday though, saints still in for another thrashing by a top premiership side loaded with internationals...it'

at last a defender we still need at least 2 more. Why do we keep spending money on forwards like 7 million on last seasons championship second best strike when we already had the best. Its our defence that will be crucified in this league. Anyway playing one up front we will have a different striker each half for games on end madness what about consistency its the only way to succeed in prem. Good luck Saints we are going to need it. pls beat the vile mancs

Well i suppose its better than visiting your local Pound world looking for transfer targets. Who cares how much these players cost, more important is the sheer quality we are getting for a bargain price. Difference between us and other Prem clubs, We pay how much they are really worth whereas other teams pay double to sweeten the deal.

I would like to believe that Rickie Lambert can continue to have a major influence in their future with the Saints.
His positivity and drive has got him to the top division and not least of all, his skill, when many commentators said he wasn't up to it.
We need his stability and experience in the team, to bring on all of this great talent that we are now assembling.

The players are coming through the door.
They look like they can become terrific players.

Agree completely. Ricky is a player who will cause havoc in this division if he gets the service and doesn't get injured. I think it would be good for him to stay.

Given that we now have more strikers than a welsh mining village this now sets us up to be an attacking side with multiple options. How cool is THAT !!

I still hope the passing game that NA has developed so succesfully here is retained though. It is both attractive to watch and effective.

If all these signings are completed the moaners and groaners will have to start looking for a different thing to target.

I will be very content once we have got a couple of wins under our belt. It will settle the team and raise the spirits of the fans.

In all honesty the opening fixtures were a very strong challenge for a newly promoted side. The purchases so far all appear very sound indeed.

If I look beyond the early season jitters I have a very good feeling about this season indeed.

NA/NC I salute you.

As we know the Japanese can't pronounce the sounds 'R' or 'L' properly because these words/sounds don't exist in their language.

With two Japanese on the bus now, I wonder if this communication problem is the reason behind the speculation over Rickie Lambert.

Japanese players seem to like it. It probably doesnt signify anything important.

The sounds kind of exist, but they are alternatives for the same morpheme and 'heard' as the same thing.

Try this. Say "Rickie Lambert", "Lickie Rambert", "Rickie Rambert" and " Lickie Lambert" to a a group of Japanese people, and the majority will will swear blind you said exactly the same thing.

So long as we manage to sign the 'light prayers' we shouldn't spend too long on our knees.

Kind of reminds me of when I complained to the waiter at my local Japanese that the chicken was rubbery, to which he replied thank you very much.

Don’t blame me, blame Benny.

Living up north the word is saints are interested in Rhys Williams, can play anywhere in back four and know he is highly rated by the coaching staff at boro as know one of them , has had a few injury problems which have held him back over the last few years but he is an international player and fits the ball playing style NA wants

The fishy jealousy in this thread is quite astounding.

I see alot of alleged fans from the other end of the M27 using alot of words to say not very much at all.
Once again I shall repeat the mantra:

'You would be better off spending your energy trying to save your club'

unless of course you've seen the light and realised that it's better to just let that club die and start a new one. You've got no money, no players, no ground and the only people interested in you are a Trust who appear to be grasping at straws every week and a businessman who sank too much money into the circus and didn't realise what a poor investment it was until it was too late.
Oh and an administrator who's in over his head and charging the earth for his second rate services.
no one wants to buy your club because it's not even worth asset stripping no matter how much everyone says it's worth. You can dress it up any way you can but like my Grandad used to say: 'You can't polish a turd'

You can't drag Saints down to your level. We got the ground, we got the financial backing and we got the players without spending ridiculous amounts in the transfer window. We're in the Premier League and we intend to stay here no matter how bumpy the ride.

and you know what? Even if we do end up having a nightmare season and move back to the Championship we'll STILL be two leagues above you and we will STILL have the ground, the players and the backing.

So jog on skates because you've got nothing to say, a joke of a club and the future on the south coast is red and white.
