Southampton complete the signing of Japanese centre half Maya Yoshida

Saints complete Yoshida signing
Saints have strengthened their defence with the signing of Japanese centre half Maya Yoshida.
The 24-year-old is joining the club from Dutch side VVV-Venlo, for a fee believed to be around £2m.
Yoshida, who is understood to have had a €3m buyout clause in his contract, has agreed a three-year-deal at St Mary’s.
The player has already been granted a work permit, and is now only awaiting his entry clearance.
In a statement, VVV-Venlo said: "On behalf of everyone at VVV-Venlo we wish him every success at the Saints."
The defender captained his country at the Olympic Games, and has been selected in the Japan squad for their friendly with UAE on September 6 and World Cup qualifier against Iraq on September 11.
Yoshida started his career at Nagoya Grampus before a move to Eredivisie outfit VVV-Venlo in 2010.
Since then, he has gone on to make more than 50 appearances for the Dutch side, scoring five times.

Why haven't we bought any journeymen yet? You know, players who have been there, done that, bought the T-shirt, raved about how they had always wanted to play for whoever and that it was their dream move and then left after a handful of games on a free transfer for somewhere else?
AND we need at least two new players who can juggle the ball with both feet whilst warming up at half time.
What's more, I can't see anyone in the current squad being good enough to pick out Gossie in row Z of the Chapel when Rickie is unmarked in the box.

We are a well run club ,who will shop within our means, looking fwd to the window closing and settling the side down.
Then we can do what weve always done, back the lads, their wearing the shirt, they carry the burden of the city on their shoulders. That burden is success,or at least rising to meet that expectation.
I want success for this management team more than at any time in decades.
God willing we will succeed.

Given the difficulties of arriving at Southampton Ramirez , Liverpool came back to the assault with Bologna . The willingness of the Reds to snatch the player to Bologna, but subject to the conditions imposed by the Bolognese. As learned in exclusive Calcimercato.com the request of Bologna is twenty million immediately. Liverpool has reached the maximum 14 but is ready to offer them a new proposal for the red and blue.
The new offensive Liverpool has 5 million for the loan sale and a figure between 10 and 15 million for the redemption obligations in 2013. The Bologna try to resist, but given the player will have to start at the end could accept the new formula to make money in a year. To replace the Bologna returned to the Brazilian Elkeson of Botafogo.

That NC and NA should go. I was expecting at least 36 new players by now and am very, very disappointed.
Simply not good enough, NC&NA. sort it out or go!
Lets also buy Michael Owen, I know he is out of contract, but lets pay United 5 million for him anyway! It would be a bargain, he would keep our physios very busy, they would never get bored.

I think we have a real good signing here, he looked superb in the Olympics.
Some clubs will always recycle players around the premiership, players who have not exactly been a great success, but because they have experience they are signed time and time again.
Some clubs however, spread the net far wider, I am pleased to say Saints are one of the clubs that have a deep knowledge and great scouting network to pick up players from a selection of leagues and countries.
It is all progressing quite nicely in my opinion.

I must say I agree with you about some of our younger players though. When people come on here demanding 3 new centre backs and left backs etc, I would like to see the likes of Shaw and Stephens get some game time this year if possible. However, I also understand that we need strength in depth. But this signing gives us that cover at the back. I do feel Shaw and Stephens are nearly ready for some PL football, they are certainly excellent prospects.

Saints have salvaged a deal with Italian club Bologna after talks broke down on how the fee was to be paid. Bologna, in financial crisis, wanted the vast majority up front, but further negotiations have taken place and an agreement reached.
Uruguayan club Penarol, who still have a 30 per cent stake in Ramirez, are thought to have sanctioned the move on the proviso they receive 30 per cent of the fee for any future transfers.
Ramirez, 21, has already agreed personal terms with Saints and is expected to make his debut in Sunday’s home Premier League game with Manchester United.

Reports in Italy suggest Bologna have agreed terms with Southampton for Gaston Ramirez in a deal worth £12m.
The transfer has been chaotic with the player demanding a move and threatening never to play for the Rossoblu again.
Southampton had agreed terms with his agent, but Bologna claimed they had not accepted the offer and so the move was off.
Talks began again from scratch and it is reported in Italy this evening that a deal has been struck at long last.
The contracts need to be exchanged between the two clubs, but the transfer appears to be all but complete at this stage.

Words quoted to me were 'There is no way you will see this coming' I am a good source and old 606 followers may remember me as having reliable inside knowledgeWhich site was that? And who is the quote from? And as for you having "inside knowledge"......Paha ha! I would bet that most staff at saints dont even have a clue whats going on transfer wise. We'll read the rumour sites ourselves if we want to be misinformed thanks.

really dissappointed by our transfer campaign so far. Thought we'd be signing far better players. Quality right back but other signings have been lacking whilst other mid to bottom prem teams have been busy buying experience. Why are we not in for players like them... players like berbatov, dawson, richardson... No experience and poor! HARD SEASON AHEAD! Ramirez is a must by tomorrow.
Not to worry mate, it won't be long before some of our finds will be experienced prem players themselves. Let's hope we'll still be able to afford them.
I agree with the earlier comment that we need to leave some space for our youth players though. Let's hope we'll bring through Luke shaw the left back rather than buy.

appleton is reported as saying that although they were the bestest ever bestest fans ever bestest.
he thought they didn't quite come up to league one standards.
so the club are now in negotiations with a undisclosed sunday league side to take their entire fan base of around twenty+a dog on a months loan.
a club official stated that it was a hard decision but at the end of the day they were just a load of gobby skint skunts and that the club needed
to get more fans through the turnstiles in order to survive.
I don't think they can get out of the shiite' that their in myself, until the fans take the club on.
twenty blokes and the dog will increase the clubs financial standing
by thirty quid a week.so at least they an pay the players.

Even if Saints have to pay 15M for Ramirez he will be the bargain of the season,I think he has the potential to be a 30M player, they need to get this deal done, pay the 2 clubs what they want. Its the agent thats trying to make his cut I reckon. If they dont someone else will nick him tomorrow.

Dare we dream? 1. Ramirez; 2. another of the previously-mentioned centre backs; AND 3. a completely unexpected world-class one?
I can still remember the day Osgood signed. That was topped the day Keegan signed. Will today be another of those days?

Morning everyone. Exciting day ahead; unless, of course, you support a club at which any player scribbling his signature today is only likely to do so at the foot of a signing on form at the dole office.

My favourite was the Del Piero post last night. Noew THAT would top Keegan.... But I think it's better that Keegan remains our biggest ever surprise though, it was at a time when there was still romance and a working class feel to football. I miss that. Now it's all about corporate boxes, over priced shirts, players who wall paper their houses in £50 notes and foreign billionaires (ahem...nothing wrong with that) .... but that still doesn't diminish the passion for the club.
We are Southampton, we are Premier League, and by the end of today we will have a squad that is the envy of the premiership.

As for Saint Wavey, long memory pasted in a post from some idiot on a rumor site, even put a disclaimer at the start, and you rip into him? WTF
Final rant: Guly lovers they comment on here with passion, but I've yet to meet one in the flesh. I think the first two games of this season, (just the first half against Wigan) he has not been too bad, but come on, he is just a gap on the pitch when we are not in possession, Ramirez or someone else RM needs improvement. On the subject of the report lets hope Yos is as much of a result as Jos has been
