Saints midfielder Adam Lallana has been drafted into the England squad ahead of tomorrow's World Cup qualifier against Ukraine at Wembley.

Roy Hodgson has handed the 24-year-old a first ever senior international call-up following the loss of five players from his team.

Lallana, who was watched by the England boss during the 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at St Mary's just over a week ago, joins Tottenham's Jake Livermore and Liverpool's Raheem Sterling in the squad as cover.

England lost ex-Saints winger Theo Walcott this morning due to illness, while Daniel Sturridge also missed training today with stomach cramps.

Hodgson said: ''It was a good opportunity to invite some young players to come in and be part of the atmosphere.

''We still have enough good players to be able to deal with the game, but it's always good when you have the chance to invite these players to come in and see how things are.''
