Lampard impressed by ex-Saint Chamberlain

Alex Chamberlain

Frank Lampard

Tom Cleverley

First published in Saints News

Frank Lampard has revealed the lack of fear shown by rising stars Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Tom Cleverley on the England stage compared to when he launched his international career.

The Chelsea midfielder admires the free-spirited approach of ex-Saints starlet Oxlade-Chamberlain and Hampshire-born Cleverley, who both impressed during Friday's 5-0 away win over Moldova in a World Cup qualifier.

Lampard believes there is a freshness surrounding the squad thanks to young blood being mixed with the core of experienced players as England prepare for tonight’s qualifier with Ukraine at Wembley.

The 34-year-old said: "I think we have a crop of players now who play with less fear than we did when we came through.

"Even though Tom Cleverley has not played many games, the games he has played are with Manchester United in the Champions League and Team GB at the Olympics .

"It means players such as Tom and Alex (Oxlade-Chamberlain) are much more capable or arriving on the scene at such a young age.

"The good thing about those two is they are good players but they take it all in very easily and don't seem fazed at all. They are very confident without being bullish or arrogant about it.

"The young players always give that free spirited attitude which is nice as well.

"When you have been there a long time...cynical is not the right word, but you know the ups and downs of it. These boys are playing for fun."

Lampard is back at the forefront of England's plans and happy to pass on advice to the emerging talent.

He said: "I do have little words when I can, like with Oxlade-Chamberlain, particularly in the build-up to a game.

"In the warm-up on the pitch the other night in Moldova, you'd say things to them and I would happily sit and talk at dinner about the ups and downs and the good and bad sides of playing for England."

Lampard still feels great pride in playing for England and his father was a key figure in ensuring the Chelsea player never quit his country when public enemy number one with supporters.

He endured a spell when booed when his name was read out by the Wembley announcer, or whenever he touched the ball.

Lampard said: "I am very proud of my England career. With England careers, they can't always be rosy for any player especially if you are going to get towards 100 caps.

"I am pleased I didn't bail out when I was getting stick because there can be easy routes particularly when you get to 30. You are allowed to retire from that age onwards.

"My dad has always been a quiet advocate of playing for your country and the fact you are a long time retired, that while you feel you can contribute, do it.

"Even in those tough times, when I had a tough game, or was getting stick, my dad was adamant on me staying in the game because we are so privileged to be here."

It is time to retire now Lampard. You were part of a squad that had its chance and failed to take it - several times. Now make way for the next generation that you speak so highly off.

The only downside of Adam getting called up by England is that he'll be socialising with c@nts like Lampard, Terry and Cole. I do hope maintains a healthy distance.

I understand slating players like cole and terry but you lack class and knowledge to say anything bad about Lampard. Model professional who hasnt done anything particular harmful and speaks with itlegence and sense in interviews. Can critise performances but not his character/attitude.

Still time for him to make way for new blood so we can build a team for the next few tournaments.

He kicked his fiance and two daughters out of his house and into some flat so that he could take up with that Northern Irish bird off the telly.

Now THAT's class.

(He's also related to the Redknapps which makes him at least partially deserving of electrocution.)

True, there's only 3 or 4 in the England squad these days. We're slipping a bit, I know. Harris you say? When his one month contract is up we may as well take him off you and turn him into an England player too. Cheers for the heads up.

True, there's only 3 or 4 in the England squad these days. We're slipping a bit, I know. Harris you say? When his one month contract is up we may as well take him off you and turn him into an England player too. Cheers for the heads up.
not homegrown though are they? Yep ; credit where credit is due - Southampton are top class at poaching talent from outside their town

I can't believe I have come back for a second day. I will be off soon for the continent to extend the sunny season. Before I go though I am going to change my name to "Chris Packham is gifted" as that was the funniest part of the thread yesterday. I also can't believe people are on here slating Lampard et al - who we know are pretty sad - but cannot acknowledge Le Tissier leaving his wife and kids for a 19 year old isn't exactly classy.

Yes our policy is to run a financial viable very successful youth academy. Your policy is to be owned by a bunch of cheats, thieves and pimps non of whom invest in infrastructure. Worked well for you hasn't it? Hahahahahahahahaha Skunt
Emh. If the trust gains control; all the crooks efforts over the last few years will have driven the club to be fan controlled. So you could argue that it may work out well for us - don't you think?
Al Fahim appears to be back. Then there's our old mate Channers. It's a long way to go for the PST to takeover. The only reason they haven't (which would be a good thing) is because you bestest bestest ever anywhere bestest in the whole wide world bestest fans ever(TM) have spectacularly failed to support them financially.
SAF is a smoke screen. Surely you can see that? I do believe we have pleadged more as fans than any other club in the country - that is progress.
1600 pledges many of which wont stump up. Strange progress! Have you pledged?
Yes. Have you?

Wigan at home wasn't that tough though. You should have picked up a draw there. I do believe you were still high from the City game - and perhaps too many fans and players alike assumed the points would be picked up easily without too much graft.

Arsene? You mean the guy who let Diarra go for 5 million who we sold a year later for 20 million or so.

Months dear boy :)

Got to say it's a fascinating story with crooks, gun runners, fake sheiks and the man from Atlantis. You couldn't make it up if you tried.

The only way out of this sqalid mess is the PST but for some strange reason many of your fans have not only not pledged but are actually hostile to the Trust for reasons I genuinely don't understand.

1670 pledges is appalling when you claim to have such good support.

Yes our policy is to run a financial viable very successful youth academy. Your policy is to be owned by a bunch of cheats, thieves and pimps non of whom invest in infrastructure. Worked well for you hasn't it? Hahahahahahahahaha Skunt
Pimps! Isn't Derby Road in Southampton?
What can you tell us about Derby Road?
That it is famously in Southampton. Do you have insider information?
Stop spending your giro on hookers and pledge to the PST! Have you pledged?
Have you pledged? I would say you have spent far more time on the News site than most Pompey fans. You are the most infamous "fan" we have who sometimes spends 14 or 15 hours on the site on consecutive days.
I have had some very sensible debates with the likes of spectre, lew11, sailorsam, dandog and many others. All good people. I discuss the issues with them whereas you come on here and just try to windup. See the difference?

So while we're discussing Pompey, if we must: the only thing worse than having a supporters' trust actually buy your club is having Agent Chalram try to kill the trust bid my any means necessary -- ushering in the final act, a return by the fake sheikh for one last mind-fcuk.

Pompey's final act: tragic farce and one final cluster**** for the fans, who probably can't quite believe what they are seeing.

For a dimwit minority of the fans, it's thoroughly deserved. Especially the ones who said they'd rather go bust than have saints, bournemouth and Brighton fans show up in a genuine effort to fill out the ground last season.

For a majority of the fans, who seem decent people, it's a humiliation too far, to be fair.

Liquidate and start over, already.

Yep ; credit where credit is due - Southampton are top class at poaching talent from outside their town[/p]
not really poaching is it, when you just offer them better then they have.and show them how we bring good young players on through to the first team.poaching is taking something illegally so are you suggesting that sfc do things unlawfully,i'd like to see proof if any exists.[/p]
Wouldn't you just love to have some local boys in your set up though eh? Admit it - It would warm the cockles of your heart.[/p]
to be honest I couldn't give a f@ck where they come from, sfc is no different to any other club in that they try to get any kid with football talent too the club, and try to improve him. looking at the set up at pfc at the mo there aint to many local kids in that lot are there.[/p]
Emh. Actually there are around 15 kids in and around the first team and the academy set up. Plus we just lost one to QPR. I don't think Saints can say the same thing. More Glory

Isn't that what the Trust bid is about - and why most fans want them to run the club; and pay off the local debts. You obviously don't keep up with what most of the Pompey fans are saying.
