RICKIE LAMBERT
Rickie Lambert insists he will try and achieve the incredible feat of winning the Golden Boot in every professional division of English football.
The Saints striker has hit the top of the Premier League scoring charts after his double against Aston Villa took his tally for the season to four.
Lambert has won the Golden Boot in three of the past four seasons – twice in League One , once with Saints and once with Bristol Rovers, and once in the Championship , having previously won it with Rochdale in League Two.
To repeat the feat in the Premier League would be his greatest achievement of all and he is already up and running.
“It’s a massive achievement winning the golden boot,” said Lambert. “I’ll give it a go.
“Obviously there’s so many good strikers out there. Who knows?
“I’m just trying to help my team get three points, so that’s all I’m focusing on.”
He added: “This is the first time I’ve scored and we’ve won the game so that’s all that matters. The three points.
“As long as we got the three points I didn’t care who scored.
“Obviously it’s nice to score. I’ve scored two again but this is the feeling I want.
“I don’t want to be feeling ‘yeah nice, I’ve scored a Premier League goal but we’ve actually lost the game.’ “This is the feeling I want and I’m hoping there are going to be more feelings like this to come.”

I thought Clyne's goal was the pick of the bunch (sorry Rickie) - his first touch in the area was fantastic (as was the flick from Gaston from Rickie's pass!)
As for the chorus of "One Nigel Adkins" was there any doubt? I just love the stability of having one Manager for more than a few games. I just hope we can keep hold of him!

I think his age is a factor when other clubs look at him. He will cost any potential bidder £10mil+, and then there is the uncertainty of how many seasons does he have left in him, and if he doesn't work out then they will be lucky to get £2mill for him.
This is mainly why we didn't see Grant Holt move on this season.

Anyway, Iorek was this hard as nails warrior bear who lost his way a bit and ended up washing up in some cackhole restaurant in exchange for whisky (which is pretty much what it must feel like playing for Bristol rovers). He was found by the books' heroine Lyra who recognised his potential and gave him back his pride and his belief and he went on to absolutely boss it over several dimensions. That's pretty much what's happened to Rickie. Hero.

We are confident he can do it so why don't they show the same confidence in the best English striker out there!
On a different note I read through a lot of the reports in the papers on Sunday and all but one were full of praise for the way we played and how it is good to see the Saints fans appreciation of Nigel Adkins.
The Sunday Mirror reporter Anthony Clavane rattles on at the beginning of his report about how some of the fans and media were doubting NA from the start and how baggy chops' name was being mentioned by some fans just before half time.
To be fair he does then go on and give an accurate account of the game which makes we wonder how many moaners and doom and gloom merchants do we have in our ranks if a reporter is picking up this sort of sh1te and writing about it.

Rickie is the fittest he has ever been and has the best possible back room staff to keep him there.
Did age make any difference to Teddy Sherringham? Never had pace, didn't need it.
He had his best years after 30 with Man u and England.

About 2 years later he knocked on my door again and said Oxford had sold him to Liverpool for £1.2M. I thought well he got away with it in Div 2 he'll never do it in Div 1. Well of course he did and he played for Ireland when they had a good team.
Similar player to Rickie and a scouser as well. I have of course had the same thoughts about Rickie this season and last. Just goes to show what a dreadful judge I am. Too fixated on pace.

There is a great feeling around the club at the moment - from the youngsters playing in the youth teams to the Chairman himself and everything in between. If the 'vision' is to be achieved (and we may all have different views on what that is but keeping feet on the ground it could be a strong Premier League team competing for Cups and European Football say), then this debate works both ways.
In times of struggle when we are not getting the breaks and mistakes costing us points - we all keep behind NA and the team and NC as well - without exception!!. In return NC keeps behind NA. In the good times when others start sniffing at our players and manager they too show the same togetherness and loyalty with us and the Chairman - to be part of something good.
It's a lot to ask in a world when the cheque book talks - but I have a feeling that NA is onside with that philosophy and hopefully is signing players that want to be part of a success story - not simply those that come for the money - as they'd be off again as soon as a bigger offer comes along.
Am I living in a dreamworld - or is there a different feeling around SFC at the moment - something special? I sincerely hope that I am right. We might have a great season - we might have a poor one - heaven forbid we might get relegated (don't see that happening at all - too good) but whatever happens we are on a 'net' upward direction. Lets all stick together and ride the wave - it's going to be fun.

I can also see Gaston being the conductor in the middle of our park from here on.
Almost every move went through him on Saturday, if Rickie was our defining signing 3 years ago, he will be the next one.

Contained in a celophane bag, I took a very large log I had dumped into the local opticians last week and they chucked me out shouting "This is an opticians - not a gastric problem centre."
I told them I was well aware of that but the point was whenever I do a log like that it makes my eyes water.
They still wouldn't let me in - just trying to save their face I reckon.

It strikes me that some of the people who are owed serious money are waiting for some billionnaire coming along to pay off the whole mess and start again.
What are the odds of THAT happening? For heavens sake that would be wonderful wouldn't it, but it's the sort of thing that only happens to the truly righteous and blessed.

You know who Rickie reminds me of (and it's not Grant Holt)? He reminds me of Iorek Byrnison, the polar bear in Philip Pulman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy. If you haven't read it I envy you because they're the most unbelievably amazing series of books and you still have them ahead of you.
Anyway, Iorek was this hard as nails warrior bear who lost his way a bit and ended up washing up in some cackhole restaurant in exchange for whisky (which is pretty much what it must feel like playing for Bristol rovers). He was found by the books' heroine Lyra who recognised his potential and gave him back his pride and his belief and he went on to absolutely boss it over several dimensions. That's pretty much what's happened to Rickie. Hero.

I told them I was well aware of that but the point was whenever I do a log like that it makes my eyes water.
