No place for Saints players in England squad

Roy Hodgson has named his England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland - but there is no place for Adam Lallana or Rickie Lambert.

Lallana was given a late call-up for the last qualifier, a 1-1 draw with Ukraine at Wembley, making it onto the bench for the match.

Lambert had made a case for a place in the squad after scoring four times already in the Premier League - a total that no English striker can beat - but he too has been overlooked, after the return to fitness of Wayne Rooney and Andy Carroll.

ENGLAND SQUAD:
Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster, Joe Hart, John Ruddy.
Defenders: Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Kieran Gibbs, Phil Jagielka, Glen Johnson, Joleon Lescott, Ryan Shawcross, Kyle Walker.
Midfielders: Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Steven Gerrard, Adam Johnson, Aaron Lennon, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott.
Forwards: Andy Carroll, Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Welbeck.

True Ospreysaint, however I am gutted for Rickie and Adam. Can not believe Carroll is selected ahead of Lambert. He has scored 4 in 6, two of which were against two of the top sides in England. I remember another famous number seven who's talent was ignored by England! I wonder what Rickie and Lallana have to do to even get a chance? Seems like Saint's talent is overlooked once more!! Still, like you say, it lessens the injury risk!

i think the problem is that we have only just got promoted so he might want to see what they are like across the season and when we stay up they would probably stay in contention. Seems to me that Roy is just trying to keep with who he knows at the moment but give it time! Agree with your comment OspreySaint!

Swear Lambert has already scored more than Carroll did all of last season.

As for welbeck, he wouldn't even get into our team!

In the last ten or so years England has produced the worst national football teams I've seen in my life (since 60s). They never learn and always stick by their inept mates. When was the last time we produced a real international star that would be the first pick of any international manager of a world team?
Interesting question I can't answer.

Adam is one for the future.Rickie will be lucky to be ever picked.Saints have never been a fashionable club.Apart from Terry Paine and Mick Channon no Southampton player has ever been picked for England on a regular basis.

Big Sam has told Woy that Andy Carroll is a long way from fitness and suggested it might not be a good idea to pick him.
That's that sorted then, first name on the team sheet....Andy Carroll.
Ryan Shawcross is described as a lunatic by his manager for some of the challenges he has been making.
Frank Lampard has been told he is no longer an automatic choice for CFC, along with another 4 or 5 of the players named in this squad.

Some things never change!

I hope we see rickie get his start (or sub appearance at the very least) this year for engerlund. But we shouldn't expect to see him become a regular -- Le tiss couldn't break into the England set up, even after a hat trick for the England b team and even with a "flair" manager in charge, in hoddle.

Unless rickie gets bought by Liverpool, in which case expect to see him rack up the caps, sheringham-style, late in his career.

Managing England has always been an exercise in flattery to the top six clubs.
