Saints duo on international duty
10:40am Friday 12th October 2012 in Saints News
Emmanuel Mayuka
Two Saints stars will be on international duty tonight, with a host of others set to follow in the coming days.
Left-back Danny Fox is part of the Scotland squad that will travel to Cardiff City Stadium to take on Wales in a World Cup qualifier.
It promises to be a poignant occasion, evoking memories of the tragic night in September 1985 when Jock Stein collapsed and died at Ninian Park.
The death of the iconic Scotland manager in the moments after the full-time whistle overshadowed the dramatic contest between the two home nations.
The decisive World Cup qualifying encounter saw Scotland, by virtue of David Cooper’s late penalty, escape with the draw that they needed to advance to a play-off with Australia, where they duly cemented a place at Mexico 1986.
But the night will forever be overshadowed by the tragedy that unfolded in the minutes after the final whistle.
Stein is set to be remembered this evening, as Scotland and Wales again square off in a crucial qualifying contest.
Both sides are in need of the three points, having experienced unsatisfactory starts to their campaigns.
Wales have lost at home to Belgium and away to Serbia, with the latter dishing out a 6-1 thrashing, while Scotland have drawn their home matches with the Serbs and Macedonia.
Also in action tonight could be centre half Maya Yoshida, who is part of the Japan squad preparing to face France in a friendly.
Both Fox and Yoshida also have games next Tuesday, with Scotland travelling to Belgium for a qualifier and Japan playing Brazil in a friendly, in Poland.
Emmanuel Mayuka is due to feature for Zambia tomorrow, as they face a trip to Uganda for the second leg of their final African Cup of Nations qualifying play-off. Zambia hold a 1-0 lead from the first leg.
Midfielder Steven Davis will skipper Northern Ireland on Tuesday, as they face a daunting trip to Portugal for a World Cup qualifier.
Also on international duty is 19-year-old forward Alberto Seidi, who is in the Portugal Under-21 squad for their home friendly against Ukraine on Monday.
Gaston Ramirez, who had been due to play for Uruguay in a pair of World Cup qualifiers, and Nathaniel Clyne, who was set to feature for England Under-21s in their Euro 2013 play-off games against Serbia, have both withdrawn from their respective squads with leg injuries.

Mayuka has looked a real threat and we don't see him and what the hell are they doing at Stapleford to injure two very key players one with a potentially career threatening injury. Just a few questions NA needs to explain.

So what is the issue with Lee? is he really injured? or just another sick note?

Lee injured his elbow when on international duty last time and is on his way back to fitness. So yes, he really is injured.
Clyne's injury was NOT in training but in the Everton match.

Failing that, if only we had a Japanese striker who's prone to scoring crackers and works his socks off. :-)
