why should he "keep his mouth shut" ? he is perfectly entitled to express opinions and lets face it, the ammunition for those opinions is still to be found in large amounts. Those that know MLT know that football aside, he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet in football. I am yet to meet anyone who has said anything even close to that about NC..... With regards the future of the football club and it being in the right hands, well my views differ to those of Matt's but of course there is the possibility he knows something I don't.... Also, MLT is a legend but I recall a conversation I had with Branfoot many many years ago about Matt and Dowie and it was clear out of the two of those players, at the time only one was behaving as a "team" player....

No, I can confirm this. I met NC in Biel last year. He was eating pizza with his family when I interrupted them.

He stopped and chatted for a while, answered my questions, shared a joke or two, asked me where I was from and signed autographs before I said goodbye ......... and do you know what? He didn't even offer me a piece of his pizza.

This is exactly the problem isn't it? Some people claim that a lot of people on here are happy-clapper, NC-can-do-no-wrong sheep, but don't actually give any reason WHY we shouldn't think he might be an OK bloke.

its not a "gravy train". Ambassadors for a club like Saints are worth their weight in gold.Everyone says NC is such a great businessman, well sorry but he does not use the syndicated press to promote the club and community P.R. is poor. The result is that SMS was not full for the last home game and will not be for "silver" games. He has been good for the club overall, of that there is no doubt, but a sound football business brain he clearly has not and failure to promote the club properly has/is/will cost us revenue. Regards two sides to the story... no sides of any story has been aired but reading inbetween the lines on this does make me think !

MLT can regulary be seen in the ex-saints hospitality box. Doubt very much that he is paying to watch any game.

I had to laugh one of the comments saying Cortese has been giving MLT gried - I've never heard Cortese even mention his name. If anything it's the other way round. This latest rant is at a charity golf day and he's still slagging cortese off. He was complaining the other week that a friend of his couldn't use his season ticket when he himself was already in the ground working for Sky.

In my opinion MLT is starting to come across a bit like the cherries owner. Maybe the loss of free tickets and drinks are the problem here?

Not sure exactly which bit you are referring to, but when Lowe was in charge I was DEFINITELY advocating that we, as fans, should leave the negativity outside the ground.

It's my belief that one of the major reasons we fell so hard is that fans stopped supporting the team as they should inside the ground, and were too busy complaining and moaning about the chairman.

If, as others suggest, the anger relates to the renting and "trashing" of a co-joined property, I would assume financial recompense was sought and received, and in all probability, a confidential clause inserted into the agreement, stopping full disclosure. Bit of a silly statement. The last game was televised so the gate was reasonable considering. You've also clearly not been taking notice of developments in Africa and Japan as the club seeks to boost its international market exposure - individual TV deals in both markets alone have massive potential so we shouldn't be surprised that players from both were signed in the summer and all pretty good internationals into the bargain. And you don't get to be a successful individual in the hard nosed world of Swiss banking without having something exceptional about you. Cortese is in fact a very efficient and effective business man. With him at the helm Saints will never go into administration again.

I have never met with either Le Tissier nor Cortese so I can't comment on their 'niceness' and nor do I care. A successful and sustainable football club to support is my interest. In the context of Southampton Football Club the business abilities of both men is so publicly available you don't need to meet them to understand them. Cortese is experienced and successful and has brought us huge entertainment and undreamed of success. With no experience whatever but with a clearly huge amount of gullability and nativity Le Tissier would have taken us to the sort of farcical and bankrupt depths that Pompey currently enjoy in no time flat. Cortese is the right man for this club at this time.

One last thought. Just because you 've been a loyal servant of your employer for 17 years doesn't give you the right to privileged position and regular freebies. It rarely happens in any other form of employment so why in football? Le Tissier got hugely well paid to do his job and on the back of that continues to be well paid - on all counts way above what fans get paid. I'm a loyal fan of the club of 45 years service. It's cost me a fortune and from the likes of me Le Tissier earned a fortune. I'm still paying - so can he!

I withdrew my financial support but still listened or watched every kick , not an easy thing to do as a lifelong fan but a necessary one I felt at the time.

Plenty of balance in your assessment Seed. It’s tough to really get inside the persona of Cortese when he plays the Abramovich card of secrecy. Keep the winning formula going at our football club and I guess we will all have to show out respects, however begrudgingly.

I agree. Past experience and other clubs predicaments should make us vigilant as to what can happen if we blindly go along for the ride.
I am pro NC, I have not seen any evdence that he picks teams or any of the other rumours that seem rife so I base my support on the results of the achievement of the club in a financially sound manner and to date, they speak for themselves

It's perfectly true and very logical, yet not even worthy of consideration.

The difference between me (and most others) and the wonderful, loyal, brilliant hero that Matt the footballer will always be to me, is that I expect nothing for what I continue to give to the club.

Don't get me started on 'Matt saved us from relegation year after year ....... blah blah blah!' He was instrumental in us being where we were then, are now and will be tomorrow as were, are and will be many others, players and others. The club owes us all one thing ..... 'a big thank you for our support'. Nothing more, nothing less.

He could attend the odd event run to support charities etc where all the local business leaders tend to gather. He could wander into his corporate suites occasionally to see how customers are doing.

they won't sell the boxes without decent marketing and a "value" attached to them. They have not even bothered to try to market them. They just expected them to fill up once we got back into the prem..... I spoke to two former box holders who will not be returning and their reasons were the same.... There is a total no brainer scheme they could run to promote them, Lease one to the echo and get the echo to fill it with their readers by way of a competitions... etc etc... oh no hang on a minute.... echo is banned.... scratch that idea.... it would hugely benefit both SMS and the echo but hey lets no let sound business revenue sense get in the way of personal grudges. ;0)

I am pro NC, I have not seen any evdence that he picks teams or any of the other rumours that seem rife so I base my support on the results of the achievement of the club in a financially sound manner and to date, they speak for themselves

That appears to be the case.

I wish he would engage with the local community more. He could invite one or two senior business people as his guests from time to time, that might help with sales of boxes. He could attend the odd event run to support charities etc where all the local business leaders tend to gather. He could wander into his corporate suites occasionally to see how customers are doing.

He used to have dinner with a few fans draw from 'the hat' every now and then. I thought that was a great idea and certainly the majority of feedback from those attending was positive. I haven't heard of one of these for a very long time - does anyone know different?
they won't sell the boxes without decent marketing and a "value" attached to them. They have not even bothered to try to market them. They just expected them to fill up once we got back into the prem..... I spoke to two former box holders who will not be returning and their reasons were the same.... There is a total no brainer scheme they could run to promote them, Lease one to the echo and get the echo to fill it with their readers by way of a competitions... etc etc... oh no hang on a minute.... echo is banned.... scratch that idea.... it would hugely benefit both SMS and the echo but hey lets no let sound business revenue sense get in the way of personal grudges. ;0)

It's perfectly true and very logical, yet not even worthy of consideration.

The difference between me (and most others) and the wonderful, loyal, brilliant hero that Matt the footballer will always be to me, is that I expect nothing for what I continue to give to the club.

Don't get me started on 'Matt saved us from relegation year after year ....... blah blah blah!' He was instrumental in us being where we were then, are now and will be tomorrow as were, are and will be many others, players and others. The club owes us all one thing ..... 'a big thank you for our support'. Nothing more, nothing less.

Oh, and it's 'shown' (past participle after HAVE/HAS in the present perfect), not 'showed' (past simple).

Not sure exactly which bit you are referring to, but when Lowe was in charge I was DEFINITELY advocating that we, as fans, should leave the negativity outside the ground.

It's my belief that one of the major reasons we fell so hard is that fans stopped supporting the team as they should inside the ground, and were too busy complaining and moaning about the chairman.
