Cockerill spots Sheffield weakness
Glenn Cockerill
Glenn Cockerill

FORMER Saint Glenn Cockerill ranks Sheffield United as one of the best-organised teams he has seen all season.

But he thinks there is still one glaring weakness Saints can exploit.

Cockerill now conducts scouting work for Saints and watched their opponents on Sunday beat Hull 2-0 at Bramall Lane a fortnight ago.

The midfielder spent eight years at The Dell, from 1985 to 1993, and is desperate for his old side to beat the drop into League One.

But he knows it will be a difficult test on Sunday against the Championship's in-form side.

"Sheffield United looked very good when I saw them," he said.

"They had Chris Morgan sent off right on half-time, when it was 0-0, but they were excellent in the second half.

"They are very strong, with a good back four and I especially liked the two wide men, David Cotterill and Stephen Quinn.

"They looked very dangerous down the right with Quinn.

"Up front, James Beattie and Billy Sharp complimented each other well, although it looks like Beattie's out."

But it is not all bad news for Saints, according to Cockerill.

"The main weakness I saw was their speed," he said.

"The two centre halves, Morgan and (Matthew) Kilgallon, are strong, but they aren't quick.

"It's the same with Gary Speed in midfield. If you can use some quick passes to get past him, you will start getting yourself into dangerous areas."

All very well there not fast, however has he seen the Saints attack this year, howe easily do they fall over. We need a bit more physical pressence cos we get easily bullied. Saying that, we can and will win!

So Sheffield United's weakness is their speed!
What positive points has Cockerill noted amongst SFC's chickens?

Fair enough. Their centre backs are slow, as is Speed, but can't you just see their manager saying the same thing to his players, ie Lucketti and Perry are slow, as are Wright and Surman, oh yes so are Idiakez, Safri and Euell, not forgetting John and Saganowski. I'll give Viafara the benefit of doubt as he seems to close down space quickly enough. I'd prefer him to be central to being on the right as he does play box to box. This game will come down to bottle, as much as anything else, and if their defence is slow will NP gamble with pace alongside John or stick with the "more experienced" players that have underperformed for most of the season? If they are strong down the flanks then it is difficult to argue for Dyer on the right when you look at how he failed to track back for WBA's goal on Monday. Is Lallana or even Dyer worth a shout alongside John, as both have a bit of pace and I like the way Lallana is prepared to hold the ball and run with it. Plus they are both small which can lead to decisions going their way when a big brute of a centre back hits them from behind when going for headers.

I think we shold start with lallana and baseya up front sunday. One is quite quick and the other is a brute!! but BOTH know how to find the back of the net.

Beaware-Careless Talk Cost lives! That was a warn ing cry from the Second Worls War telling people to give away secret to ememy!

But Cockerill did make a big mistake letting Sheff United know too early as they might have seen the story and might have to change tatics!

If Sheff United beat us then Cockerill will be to blame!!!

REMEMBER CARELESS TALK COST CHAMPIONSHIP LIFE !

blades are slow all over the pitch, but the goals conceded column does not look to bad.the game earlier this season at the lane was very poor,we was under robson then and easy pickings for any team, hopefully you will see a more determined united on sunday.

If you lose it will be Cockerill's Fault???
For telling us he thinks some of our players are a bit slow??? Don't you think we already know that and will adapt to suit? Is it Cockerill's fault you're about to drop into League 1? You were awful against West Brom, admit it.

I do believe you have a chance of beating the Blades on Sunday though - we have an on-loan full-back filling in in defence because two of our centre-backs are crocked, and the best striker in the division is also out injured. Many on our forums have suggested we should actually throw the game to try to get Wednesday relegated. I'd love it, but to be honest I think even with half a team that we'll put out, we'll still struggle to lose. You haven't played consistently well for a while now, despite the free 3 points we meekly handed over at our place. Good Luck, and if the worst happens stick with the Saints and help them back up. I really hope you stay up though, if it means Wednesday going down!
