SAINTS legend Lawrie McMenemy has described tomorrow's game against Sheffield United as "the most critical in the club's history."
Saints know that even a win might not be enough to stop them sliding into the third tier of English football for the first time since 1960.
McMenemy, writing in his exclusive Daily Echo column today, said: "I would ask everyone to put politics to one side for 90 minutes, acknowledges the good things which are still around our club and that we all pull together."
McMenemy has chatted to FA chairman Lord Triesman and Football League chairman Lord Mawhinney in recent weeks, and said: "I only hope and pray that the good Lord turns up in the red and white shirt tomorrow."

Read this again editor. I could be the proof reader you need!
How sad it is when you come to realise, as I have, that many English people have so much difficulty grasping the fundamentals of their own language. What on earth is going on with our education system?

It makes more sense written down than when you listen to the bad-speaking, geriatric Geordie!
What is your problem with what has been written Chris?
Your comments would probably be better placed in letters to any American newspaper because, if they mangle the English language, that they claim to speak, in in print as they do when they speak, you would have a justified cause for comment!

Let's hope that the new Tory council will do something to improve local educational standards so that contributors to the Echo's blogs will write in grammatical and correctly spelt English perhaps even to the level of Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho!)
Pay up you Saints, jolly good show, what!
Hello Benny, First of all, I want you to know that I am an English chap. Secondly, I understand what you are saying, but when a so-called newspaper, which many people read, both at home and online, publishes items with grammatical and/or spelling errors, I can't help but wonder what has happened to our education system. Ask one hundred 15 year old kids what an adverb is for instance. How many of them would know the answer? Precious few I think. And what about the apostophe, a much maligned symbol, eg apple's, banana's, both of which are examples of the notorious "GREENGROCER'S APOSTROPHE". I realise that this may or may not mean anything to you or anyone else out there, but I have always felt it important that wherever you come from, you should at learn as much as you can about your own language, especially if you are expecting someone else to speak it too. Don't know if my comments are justified Benny. You be the judge, but not the jury please. I still have some living up my sleeve.
The only problem I had with the article was that, when he said, 'I only hope and pray that the good Lord turns up in the red and white shirt tomorrow', it was not clear whether he was referring to 'The Lord above' or either of the Lords Mawhinney and Triesman!
He is so prone to name-dropping, that it can be confusing at times!
