Now the news has had time to sink in, Saints fans are beginning to adjust to life under the new boss.
Nigel Pearson crept in completely under the radar of the St Mary's faithful, leaving many scratching their heads as to who he was and why he been given the job.
But by now he was spoken and given everyone the chance to hear what he has to say and where he says he wants to take the team.
He has been described a disciplinarian with a winning mentality by chairman Leon Crouch, and after the attractive-yet-soft style of George Burley's sides, many think he may be exactly what the doctor ordered.
But what do you think of the new man in the St. Mary's hotseat? Will he steer the Saints away from danger and eventually back into the Premier League?
Or do you think his appointment is a gamble to far for Saints in their current, perilous predicament?

So this week's question is:
Is Pearson to man to take Saints forward in the long term?

I think Pearson will turn out to be one of the great sucesses of Crouch's reign as chaiman of this club. We are a club in financial peril, so we cannot afford the wages of a well known, proven manager like Sam Allardyce or Steve McClaren. Considering he has come on the cheap, and has already, I think, got the team playing some decent football, I think this is the start of good things for the club. But we will have to judge over the next 5 or 6 games whether he will be a sucess or failure. Comon u saints, lets go and get a result in front of the home fans for once!!!!!!

I wasnt expecting sweeping changes and a 3-0 thumping of Scunthorpe but then i wasnt expecting a man who has shown very little ability and who actually threw down the captains armband to get a full 90mins again.
Pearson - find a way not to play wright and euall and your on to a winner

in light of george burley's first scotland squad it has been announced that he is going to pick 3 uncapped youngsters, george has found out that jermaine wright has got a scottish dog
