Upper Wharfedale School has received £5,000 towards the refurbishment of its tennis courts from Craven District Council.

The school is one of nine groups across Craven to receive a share of the remaining £13,000 from the council’s capital funding pot for this year.

The Threshfield school’s tennis courts are used not only by students at the school, but by pupils of seven other schools in the area and also by members of the public.

Age Concern Bentham also received £5,000 towards the cost of a minibus. The minibus will be fitted with a tail lift for the transport of those in wheelchairs.

A spokesman said: “Part of our vision is to make our social activities accessible to more of our members by buying a minibus with disabled facilities.

“The grant brings that goal that much closer and our members are grateful for the council’s help.”

Craven Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) received £2,000 to buy 13 new computers and an IT system to cope with future software upgrades.

Skipton Swimming Club received £589 towards the training of instructors. The aim is to train young volunteers who are no longer interested in competing to pass on their knowledge to others.

A grant of £497 was awarded to The Museum of North Craven Life in Settle towards the cost of new activities including a family and local history day at The Folly. It will also fund a family stories exhibition telling the stories of three Craven families using panels and original documents.

Ingleton and District Tradespeople’s Association received £997 towards Ingleton Folk Weekend and Overground Underground Festival. Both events, to be held this year, will offer culture, music, dance, exhibitions and films.

The Friends of Middleton and Ickornshaw received £497 towards the cost of painting play equipment and benches at Middleton Recreation Field. The money will be match funded by Cowling Parish Council.

Bentham Beagles Running Club was awarded £497 to train a volunteer to join another volunteer in the club’s junior section.
