GOOD for Alexandra Burke, in that she had the courage to go it alone and produce her second album on her own, rather than follow the more linear path dictated by the X-Factor camp.

But perhaps this was a decision taken too early. For although she delivers a competent piece of work, Heartbreak On Hold is missing that all important killer track, yet alone a bunch of songs to capture the public imagination.

Unfortunately the likes of Elephant, Let It Go and the title track are aimed directly at the most uninspiring dance floors and the dodgiest of backstreet bars.

Indeed, Oh La La samples Crystal Water’s one and only hit and that was a stinker.

This is a great shame, as Ms Burke is a versatile interpretive vocalist with a lot to offer.

However, her judgement in choosing new material is lacking. She really ought to start looking around for a sympathetic producer and keep an ear open for material more in keeping with her talents.
