PENALTY DECIDES MATCH
11:33pm Sunday 23rd November 2008 in Sport
The top two in this years Division one title chase met at Testwood College for the first time this season both protecting undefeated records.
The early exchanges were frantic and the tackles were flying in, giving the referee some difficult early decisions to make. A precision pass from Cook played in Wilson after only five minutes but he shot just wide of the goal.
The breakthrough came in the fifteenth minute when a great run from Kai Clark ended when he was fouled in the penalty box. Wilson stepped up and placed the ball in the bottom right hand corner sending the Winchester keeper the wrong way.
The second half started as the first had ended, with both teams completely committed to the battle, but Pace seemed to get their football game going and started to create some chances, the first falling to Cook who just couldn't get the ball out of his feet with only the keeper to beat. The Pace defense were superb and contained the speedy Courtney well stopping any danger he created.
The best chance of the second half came when Blackman slipped the ball over the Winchester defense and Wilson chested the ball down and blasted a shot which the keeper tipped over the bar for a great save.
A couple of minutes later and Cook broke through but his pass to Wilson was just to high.
The game ended with Pace still unbeaten in the League and Winchester licking their wounds in this highly charged encounter, so on to next weeks Dalton Cup quarter final between these two teams.....
