A hunt has been launched for a driver who killed a teenager in a hit and run crash in Hampshire last night.

Nineteen-year-old Steven Johnson died after he was hit by a car on the A3057 last night.

Steven Johnson, 19, was hit by a Vauxhall car as he walked towards Romsey at 10.34pm last night.

Emergency services were called but the teenager, wfrom Station Road, Romsey, had died at the scene at 10.34pm.

Police today issued an appeal to find the driver involved in the crash on A3057.

The road has now reopened after being closed while collision investigators examined the scene.

Inspector Kirsty Shannon from the Roads Policing Unit said: “We are appealing for information on the whereabouts of the old style Vauxhall Astra Mark 3, registration prefix between K and S, which was involved in the collision.

“The vehicle would have sustained some substantial damage to the windscreen, is missing its front offside wing mirror and has a smashed front offside headlight.

“I would appeal for the driver, or anyone with information about the collision, to contact the police straight away.”

One local teenager said: "I grew up in Romsey, I'm about the same age as him and I want to know if it's someone I know.
"It's a bit worrying really, I don't know if it's someone I know.

"It was a horrendous thing to happen."
