SHOPPERS could not believe their eyes yesterday as they were greeted by the unique sight of a semi-naked man daubed purple from head to toe.
Bonkers Ben Edgson strolled up and down Above Bar Street, Southampton, for the latest in a series of dares aimed at raising cash for charity.
Ben’s 11-year-old brother was diagnosed with cancer on Christmas Eve – and since then the 22-year-old has been hell-bent on raising as much money as possible for the Piam Brown Ward at Southampton General Hospital.
He said: “I was just thinking up ways to raise money that were slightly different and thought by asking people to dare me to do things I can do a whole load of different activities.
“I made a video, put it on the Internet and it has just gone from there. Now I have people daring me to do all sorts!”
Previous dares have seen Ben, from Bassett, completely shave his head and go on a massive weight loss drive in aid of the ward, which treats children with cancer.
Challenges in the pipeline include eating a handful of sardines – a huge problem for Ben, who cannot stand fish.
