Happy slapping of man dressed as mobile phone
A SALESMAN dressed as a giant mobile phone certainly didn't get the reception he expected when he touted for business in Southampton city centre.
The unfortunate "mobile man" was about to greet a baby in a pushchair when out of nowhere a teenager appears and pushes him over.

Due to the size and weight of the costume, he was unable to stand the the shove in the High Street and fell to the ground in front of stunned shoppers.
And to add to his embarrassment the whole episode was captured on a mobile phone video camera.

should the shop have carried out a risk assessment perhaps and recognised the risks to the public? if the outfit was so heavy then there was a risk to the employee of back injury, lack of stabilty in strong winds etc or are we just being over sensative?

I hope these thugs get arrested and punished for this cowardly assault. The baby could easily have been injured or killed by the heavy costume.
Thats the thing with most teens of today, they don't think and have no respect and consideration for other people. They are wrapped up in their little selfish world where they are perfect and everone else is inferior.
They may become pharmasists.

I do agree that kids need to have a bit more respect though..
...But I did find the video quite funny

This sort of behaviour is shocking and I would hope at the very least, the police will be looking at CCTV to see if an offence has been committed.

why is everyone starting on all teenagers again? happyslapping is not only commited by under 18s there are a lot of grown up drunks that do it and it was probably started by the old tango adverts were they all teenagers? i personally find most teenagers i know to be polite and helpful - when i am oput with my children it is most likeley a teen helping me on and off the bus with my pushchair and shopping etc and they always make sure they are not in the way by standing in shop doorways etc in fact i find its the 30+ generation thaty like to stand in shop doorways for a chat or hold up a long line in a shop nattering to the cashier - oh and they are also the ones that will sit and watch you while you struggle on a bus aswell!

he was doing a promotion for Blackberrym hence why he was standing outisde Vodafone. I work there. Even though we found it funny at first, and so did he, that guy is a complete and utter idiot. It's not a foam suit and it cost a lot to make. All he did was make a few kids smile and do his job.

I would like to say that this was filmed by accident the lady recording was filming him dancing at the time, as its not something you see every day, It was at that point that the youth ran and pushed the mascot over. It was a case of wrong place wrong time. There for the video is not actually 'happy slapping'. The youths were certainly in the wrong, but this is not the first time this has happened we have all seen footage of mascots being pushed over through the years. There is far to much speculation as to what could or couldn't have happened, the costume is a bit battered but the man inside is fit and healthy and so is every one who was around him. I would also like to add that west quay security have been made aware of this incident.

I sure the man wearing the foam costume wasn't wearing it by choice but because he is one of the increasing few that want to work rather than doss on benefits. It's degrading enough having to wear something like that let alone be attacked just for wearing it.
Most babies love mobile phones and who knows how upsetting this was to the child.

I personally would book the phone for diving (the more you watch it, the more you notice he didn't actually have to go down).
Of course you are all so shocked that you only watched it once.
Yeah right, that is one of the funniest things I've seen for a long time.
