Flood devastates home
 |
| SURROUNDED BY WATER: Chris Leigh's home after the drain blockage. |
A HAMPSHIRE home has been devastated by flooding after a drain became blocked in the road outside.
Sewage covered the front drive and the back garden before entering the house, coming up through the floorboards.
Carpets in the home in Botley Road, Sholing, Southampton have been ruined and a long clean-up process has begun.
Chris Leigh, 31, who has lived with partner Stephen Noke in the home for just over two years, noticed the sewage water rising before going to work.
Stephen's mother Diane Noke, who lives in the annex to the side of the house, contacted both Southern Water and the fire brigade to fix the problem.
Stephen, 39, who works for Norwich Union, was told of the problem by telephone as he was away on a business trip in India.
Now his son Harry, who is just two years old, will not be able to venture into the back garden for at least a week and for the time being will have to live in the annex which has escaped much of the damage.
Chris, who works for Hampshire police in Andover said, "I couldn't believe it when I got home. I was in complete shock.
"If someone had just come out before it started coming in the house there would have been no problem."
A spokesman for Southern Water said: "The problem was caused by an unforeseen blockage in the sewer (in Botley Road). The blockage has now been cleared and no further problems have subsequently been reported.
"A clean-up operation of any areas affected by the overflow have also been cleaned by our sewer crew.
A representative from our crew has been in touch with the customer to explain the situation and actions taken."

I'm amazed at the lack of foresight by the reporter.
Stating the name of the road, and location, showing a picture of the house and then telling one and all the occupant is a police officer - If i were him i'd be bloody furious, given that where he lives his property/life is probably now in danager.

Dear amzazed,
Please learn to spell 'amazed' and please learn to read that which you are criticising. Where does it say the man is a Police Officer? It says he works for Hampshire Police. So do many other 'civilians' NUMPTY !!!

It says that he (or she) works for the police - it doesn't say he/she is a police officer.

Let's get this cleared up, yes they do work for the police, but not as a police officer!
To Steve and Family, hope this all get sorted out soon!
