Ford's Future in Southampton Paul Poolton Hannah Foster Murder Trial Fluoride debate

Police are not above the law

7:12pm Wednesday 7th March 2001

I was disturbed to read about the case of Emmanuel Bioh (Trust is gone, February 22).

It seems officers have mounted a sustained campaign of harassment against Mr Bioh because he has had the temerity to complain about police behaviour on a previous occasion.

Two years after the Macpherson report, it seems little has changed in the way that police officers treat black people on the streets. To take another example, Delroy Lindo has been charged 37 times by Haringey police and their own report has admitted systematic police harassment.

I hope that the Times Group continues to cover this case until Mr Bioh is free to go about his business without fear of persecution. I would urge other readers who are concerned about this matter to write to their MP and to the Home Secretary, Jack Straw.

I would also ask readers to join the march for justice which has been called by the Lindo campaign, the Broomfield Three and the Sylvester family. The march assembles at Tottenham police station, High Road, Tottenham, at 12noon on Saturday.
