College staff to get personal computers

FURTHER Education teachers in Buckinghamshire are set to benefit from £15,000 of computer subsidies to help raise standards.

Tutors at Amersham and Wycombe College in Stanley Hill, Amersham, will get personal computers as part of a new £3 million initiative.

Under the pilot scheme, teachers will be able to apply for a subsidy of 50 per cent of the cost of a computer, up to a maximum £500.

Each college will receive a minimum of £2,500 or five subsidies.

Lynda Purser, the executive director for the local Learning and Skills Council which covers Buckinghamshire, said: "The subsidies will give Further Education teachers greater access to information and teaching materials available on the internet.

"It will help them to develop their computer skills with the ultimate aim of benefiting the teaching and learning process."

The applications process for the subsidies begins this month.
