TV chef James Martin stunned on lookers when he made a surprise appearance at a Hampshire classic car show.

The Saturday Kitchen star arrived in his rare former Le Mans Ferrari racing car much to the surprise of classic car enthusiasts at the annual event in Romsey.

 Organiser, Romsey hairdresser Steve Biddlecombe, said: “James Martin contacted me a few days before asking if he could visit and he sent a list of his amazing car collection and he came along in a rare 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB /C ex-Le Mans race car which is one of only seven made and the only right hand drive.”

One of James' friends arrived in one of the chef's four ex works Mini Cooper's that he owns which competed in the famous Monte Carlo and RAC Rally in the mid-1960s.

Car parks at the Crosfield Hall, Aldi and Romsey Bus Station were throbbing to the sound of revving motorbike engines and gentle sounds of classic cars ticking over .

Pointing out that the event drew in record crowds of spectators Steve said: “The show went really well with an incredible number of vehicles and a good variety and probably the most viewing public we've ever had.”

He added: “We filled all three car parks in no time but squeezed as many vehicles in as possible and then as one would leave, we'd let another in, so numbers were high again.”
