For Saints fans there has been no escaping the news this week that Chairman Nicola Cortese might be heading for the exit.

His own publicity machine has been spreading the word that the Italian is so unhappy with the club’s owners not backing his future plans for Southampton FC with enough hard cash that he may just walk.

The fact his contract is up at the end of next month appears to be playing a part in all this. First to the block to support the Chairman was recently installed manager Mauricio Pochettino who declared if the boss walked so would he. I wonder if the man he replaced, Nigel Adkins, would have been quite so supportive.

It's also refreshing to see a manager giving a vote of confidence in his chairman. It's usually the other way around, just before the coach gets the push.

Sadly, while all of the attention has been focussed on Mr Cortese’s possible departure (personally I hope he stays, for the fashion tips alone) neither the Chairman nor his manager managed to find the time to attend the funeral of Saints legend Kevin Moore who lost his brave fight with dementia recently.
