I too was an abandoned child

Sympathise with Mr and Mrs Cameron after they left their eight-year-old daughter Nancy behind at the pub after enjoying a Sunday lunch with friends.

Well, to be honest I empathise with little Nancy, for I too was once a forgotten child when my own dear Mum parked me outside in my pram the butcher shop and then got on the bus to go home without me.

When she returned a while later I was still there, safely gurgling away to myself (I haven’t lost the habit).

Looking back I’m shocked: not only did no one bother to call social services, but no one attempted to make-off with me. I must have been an ugly child.

Dear Mum remains surprised to this day no one went off with the pram during her absence. After all, she tells me, it was quite an expensive model.
