While watching the 1-1 draw against Brighton, it was clear to both Mick Channon and I that Saints lack leadership on the pitch.

It was a pleasant surprise to see Mick, who like me was was a guest in a mutual friend’s executive box. But it was a disappointing performance.

We felt Brighton were the better team in the first half and at half-time we agreed that we don’t seem to have a leader in the team.

I pointed out to our friends that if Mick had been out there he would have got into the faces of his teammates, telling them to get more involved and to up their game.

The late Alan Ball, Kevin Keegan and many others were also in that category.

But I could not see anyone of that ilk in the current Saints team on Wednesday night.
