Police put final touches to derby plans

I said I would report back on the work we are doing for the Portsmouth game. Here's a list of just a few of the things we've been up to.

We are still looking at this from the perspective of a major sporting event for the City so our work is about planning for a safe event with the football club and other City organisations.

Of course we are planning for the possible risks too but our focus is on a great day for all the fans of both teams. Some will go away disappointed but I hope all will go home having had a great time in the City.

We are speaking to people in the residential and city centre business communities to discuss their needs and putting in place neighbourhood patrols to give any reassurance required

We've been working with the organisers to make sure the Chinese New Year celebrations planned for the Saturday and Sunday aren't affected by the football game.

Planning the duties and tasks of the 260 or so people involved in the policing operation, (including, very importantly, welfare and refreshments!) is a major task.

Making sure all the teams, including a mounted section from Thames Valley and British Transport Police colleagues and others all communicate and work together effectively, (in large operations for all organisations or businesses it's communications which are so often critical to success).

Working with pubs and clubs to agree how they can operate safely on match day and the Friday and Saturday nights.

Keeping alert to any signs of potential trouble and planning how we deal with any trouble makers including speaking to them beforehand (we know who most of them are) and making the arrangements needed if arrests are made.

Working on media and communications plans so we try and get more information out to people before, during and after the game, including making more use of social networking sites for example.

Organising the police control centre at the stadium and our force command and control room at Netley (lots of people want to be involved and many people have a case for being in the control room but as I well know the police commander needs the control room at the stadium to be very carefully managed!) And that’s just some of it.

Fortunately I have a great team doing this work for me and I hope the fans will see what a good job we have done.

Really hope we win the game against MK Dons to reach Wembley, then we can go into the Pompey game more relaxed, as the season wont have been a dissapointment. We have no hope of play-off's now, as we now have a totally screwed up side. I said on this forum before the new year started, i hope we don't try fixing something that was n't broken and we have ; it's so easy when you have unlimited funds to start buying loads of players. Unfortunately this can have a very negative effect on the players already at the club...especialy when they were playing TOGETHER so well. It's so easy spending other peoples money, O'Leary did it, Keegan did it, Rednapp did it. Welcome to the wasteland of English football Mr Liebherr, where if you want to make a fortune ...you start off with a large one... buy a football club, and in no time you'll have a small one!. You can consider yourself lucky you did n't take over a premiership club in July as you'd be well on your way to a small one by now...

Fingers crossed all the good work doesn't go to waste, by a few mindless idiots causing as much trouble as possible.
For me it's early breakfast, early pint or two, early kick off, and early to go home, with a smug grin of my face because the Saints have won.

Blues fans have been posting on The News website that they have tickets in the Saints fans areas, how will they be dealt with if it becomes obvious that they arent Saints fans ie: Sitting on their bums when we score!?

If it is the Chinese New Year, how about a few Dragons at Half time to entertain the crowd, one of the big disapointments these days is the lack of anything to see in the interval, in the old days we usually had a Military Band, or some other form of entertainment to fill the gap. Much better than the rather pathetic, fat bloke trying it the crossbar, or big ball from the corner post e.t.c.
Pity they cannot have the Navy Gun Run but I guess that wouldn't do any favours to the pitch!

I am pleased that detailed plans have been put together but do these cover the mindless thousands who will arrive in the City without a ticket?
Dont under-estimate these idiots who will want to leave their mark on potentially the last Saints V Poopey match ever!

"Keeping alert to any signs of potential trouble and planning how we deal with any trouble makers including speaking to them beforehand (we know who most of them are) and making the arrangements needed if arrests are made. "

Simple, if you know who they are, don't let them anywhere near the stadium.

I will gladly help the Police and stewards weed out skates. In fact i will point the skates in the Saints section out with the end of my boot.

Always like to help when i can.
