A HEARTBROKEN young woman will take to the skies for a sponsored parachute jump in memory of her boyfriend who died in a car crash.

Hayley Porter, 22, will take the plunge to raise money for road safety charity Brake after her boyfriend Joe Pomeroy, 22, was killed after hitting a tree in North Wales in December 2009.

The daring retail worker has hopes of breaking through her £1,000 target and is urging anyone who suffered a loss because of a road accident to take part in memory of their loved one.

Hayley, of Victor Gardens, Hawkwell, said: “I really wanted to do something for the charity because they offer support to the victims of road accidents and they really push for road safety.

“I decided to do something in memory of Joe because I see more accidents happening and there needs to be more awareness.

“It will be a challenge for me because I am not good with heights, but I definitely want to do more charity events in the future.”

Joe, who had just turned 22 a week before the accident, was in the car with three of his best friends when it swerved off the road and crashed.

The couple, who had been together for a year and a half, had plans to buy a place together in Southend once Joe had finished his mathematical science degree in Wales.

Hayley added: “He was up for doing anything, and he played the guitar and loved to travel and wanted to see the world.

“I want to get as many people as possible involved in this because it is important.”
