PENNY Burt is Acorn Social Club A’s number one supporter.
She never misses a cribbage match featuring her husband and team captain John.
The pair, who have been married for 41 years, have two daughter who each have three daughters.
John said: “That’s eight girls all together and they’re all angels.
“I was hoping for a boy so I could teach him golf!”
John, who suffers from Parkinson’s, is a great believer in “mixing it up” and not having regular playing partners. He said players must learn to read their partner’s cards.
“If somebody starts off with a two, you think possibly he’s got another two or a three,” he said. “So I’ll try and make it up to 28.
“Only it doesn’t always work. Sometimes that’s the only two he’s got.
“Last week we were losing 4-2 and came back and won. This week we were losing 4-2 and didn’t come back.”
Acorn Social Club has had a flood of membership applications following last week’s closure of near neighbours Brook Social Club.
Long-serving steward Bob Marsh retires at the end of March after overseeing the club’s 80th birthday celebrations last year.
