Will Jordan be smiling in Leeds?

ONE thing is for certain. The name ‘Jordan Winbourne’ will strike terror into the hearts of England’s young potters in Leeds on Sunday.

Young Jordan is heading up the M1 today - or he could be floating - ready for tomorrow’s last-16 stage of the English Under-16 Championship.

His will be the name to avoid in the draw.

Last Saturday, Jordan qualified for the regional finals of Ronnie O’Sullivan’s Future Stars of Snooker 2011 at a six-reds tournament at Rileys, Bournemouth.

On Sunday, he was in action in the sixth leg of the Cuestars South of England Championship Tour at Copnor Snooker Club, Portsmouth.

And there’s nothing like a century to boost a 15-year-old’s confidence. (Or how about one against a top-32 professional? More of that later.)

Jordan smacked in a 105 break in a 3-1 win over Billy Castle in the quarter-finals.

And he then defeated ‘The Mighty Finn’ 3-1 in the semis.

Mike Finn, Southampton’s Town Champion, said: “He played very well and thoroughly deserved to beat me. I don’t give praise lightly but he was very impressive.”

Jordan then headed down to Hastings for a session with world number 20 Mark Davis, a friend of his coach Duncan Moore. In the first frame, Jordan cleared the table for a 130. Davis won 15-4.

Will young Jordan this weekend come out of the shadows of south-coast rivals Shane Castle and Adam Bobat and blossom in his own right?
