HOW terrible that despite an EU-wide ban on whaling products, an enquiry by the charity Whale and Dolphin Conservation has shown that at least one consignment of whale meat from Norway has passed through Southampton Container Port so far, en route to Japan.
The Environment Minister cynically says “there is no way to stop this trade, shipments through an EU port are legal.”
We in Southampton United Animal Charities cannot believe that a boycott by our Government can’t be initiated, and call on the sympathisers to our stance to contact their MP.
And what about our dockers? I’m sure most of them must be unhappy to “handle”
products from whale slaughter. Can they not refuse?
MRS SHEILA CLAYTON, Hon. Organiser S.U.A.C., Southampton.
