Anyone for tennis . . . equality?

Daily Echo: Anyone for tennis . . . equality? Anyone for tennis . . . equality?

THE prize money for this summer’s Wimbledon tennis tournament has just been announced – the winners of the men’s and women’s singles titles will receive the same amount.

However, the men have to play a maximum of five sets while the women have to secure the best of three.

Perhaps the distribution of money should be reviewed – after all, everybody would like value for money.

PHILIP G HAWKINS, Southampton.

You'd think the people who run tennis, know tennis!

It's not all about how many sets they play - as the Men's winner and the Women's winner could end up playing the exact same amount of sets from start - finish. It's mainly about how easy/hard it is to win the competition.

Anyone who doubts me should check the WTA rankings list. Serena Williams has almost double rankings points from second place - and more than double of who I think is the strongest alternative regardless of points - Azarenka.

The men should get more money for winning. It's nothing to do with sexism or equality.
