Pay and conditions too poor to attract best staff

First published in Readers' Letters

I WATCHED the latest BBC secret filming of the mistreatment of elderly nursing home patients on Panorama.

This is the reality of being a support care worker.

Back-breaking work, lucky if you get minimum wage, zero hours contracts.

There is never ever any excuse for mistreating care home patients but can the pay and conditions offered attract properly qualified carers?

We all have to get old, it is something that only a nation’s conscience can solve.

Too true, the fees for care homes are huge, the wages they pay are miniscule, even care has to line the pockets of the bourgeoisie these days.
