SO the council has a £30m black hole and now, with the possible closure of Woodside Lodge Care Home, specialising in dementia care (Daily Echo July 8) they want to create another!

It’s a well known fact that to move dementia residents more than necessary can be extremely detrimental to their condition and should this home closure happen, these residents will possibly feel like they are in a black hole.

Dementia sufferers need stability and routine with people they have come to know, both staff and other sufferers and also being able to stay in familiar surroundings.

The Woodside Lodge staff are exceptional, treating all residents with dignity and respect no matter how advanced their dementia is.

The work is very demanding but nothing is too much trouble and relatives are continually updated on all aspects of the home as well as always being encouraged to take part in the social activities organised by the staff, for which many of whom give up their free time to attend and help with.

An anticipated loss of 29 jobs and the dreadful upheaval for vulnerable residents and their relatives in an attempt to save £2 million is beyond comprehension when there must be a million other ways to make cuts.

If the council “cares”, please don’t close Woodside Lodge Care Home.
