READING that the finish of the Clipper ships’ return was London, can I please ask why our Southampton councillors have no vision?

We lose out all the time to Portsmouth, and now London has received the benefits and the joy of hosting the clipper ships’ return.

Liverpool is making in-roads into our cruise ship industry.

We know the Global Ocean Race will leave from Southampton but that also doesn’t return here, but to Portsmouth, in May 2015.

I’m not saying we should be greedy but we are a sea port and I’m fully aware that money is a key issue with everything the city does and with a hole to fill – but these events are not only prestigious adverts to the sailing world, but must bring revenue in.

Eventually we will not be asked to host these events.

Our councillors are too negative.

Welcome to the home of ocean sailing? Not so. The people who have the say aren’t bothered, so go elsewhere.

Shame!

DOT SMITH, Southampton.
