POTHOLES, lumps and bumps are still a major problem in Southampton.

I cycle from the Itchen Bridge through St Mary’s over the level crossing through to Hoglands Park and the roads there are terrible, just like some of the lumpy roads you get on the Isle of Wight.

Why can’t the council resurface all the roads there as it takes a lot of traffic now, especially as they have closed off long term Central Bridge where no roadworks seem to be going on?

A pothole along a cycleway along The Avenue has now been reported three time to the council and it still remains unfilled! I have a couple of times nearly fallen off my bicycle when the hole has been full of rain water.

Some good news is the council has, in parts, re-Tarmaced The Avenue (northbound) stretch of road from the law courts to The Cowherds pub and this is very good.

If anyone wants to report a pothole I suggest they use The Cycle Touring Club’s website fillthathole.org.uk/hazard, which is free and you do not have to be a member to use it.

Another hazard is the new cycle path that goes up from the bus stop at the start of The Itchen Bridge.

The way it is designed means cyclists collide with passengers getting off buses.

There will be a serious accident there if this is not re-routed.
