R GRANT (Letters, July 14) amply demonstrates why the Lib Dems are inconsequential and virtually unelectable, and why some more fair-minded members of his party seek to disassociate themselves from his views.

He apparently thinks it fair that workers only have a one per cent pay rise, some nothing for three years, whilst bankers and the wealthy enjoy tax cuts and massive bonuses.

He obviously countenances the bedroom tax, proliferation of food banks, zero hours contracts, severe cut-backs to health and welfare services, and a minimum wage so poor that some families need additional support to survive.

The strikers are incensed at the inequality of society, and justifiably so. It is the only way to get anyone to recognise the injustice of it all.

The Liberal Democrats at one time was seen as a party of compassion and one that aspired to address the problems of the nation, particularly those of the under-privileged. Not any more, they are but an adjunct of the Conservative party.

And whilst he sees no justice in the workers’ justified actions, and whines about being poor, it somehow doesn’t ring true, especially taking into account his several previous letters campaigning for a lift in the death duty threshold of £350,000.

It seems to suggest a level of wealth that few of the public will attain. I would suggest that if he is poor, then he should join the only party that has genuine welfare concerns; the Labour Party.
