RE Jim Brown’s comments on the cash machines – sorry, speed cameras – in Lances Hill, Southampton.

My wife chose the driver course after rushing down Lances Hill at 37mph. She has been driving for over 40 years, but she had to sit and listen to an ex-copper telling her how to drive.

One lady has been doing 32mph and had come from Oxford, so 2mph had cost her a fortune, and after the course she probably spent more time looking at her speedometer than at the road, which is not the way to drive.

At the course were 20 people, all paying £85 for an afternoon being toldwhat they already knew.

If speed cameras worked nobody would be speeding.

But they don’t – they just collect money and add extra money to insurance premiums.
