IT’S very sad to hear of the death of celebrities like Robin Williams that when they arrive at the peak of their careers – talented, wealthy with a loving family, it all ends in a tragic end by their own hands.

The actor and comedian had been battling drugs and alcohol for many years and was this week found hanged at his California home.

Is it that the stress of success has to be obtained by bolstering up one’s career with alcohol and other substances?

The availability of drugs, some called designer drugs are to be had.

Other stars have taken ‘uppers’ and ‘downers’ whatever they are, to get through a performance. The drug culture has got out of hand, encouraged by the so-called ‘with it’ set, and unchallenged by the authorities.

The theory that some drugs are not really harmful is the thin edge of the matter.

Now drug taking is replacing drink as a driving menace. It is sad we have lost the impetus to stop drug taking.

With many never having taken any substance stronger than bitter shandy, the older generation are wondering sincerely about the sanity of the drug culture generation. Where can they go?

Only down.
