I completely agree with the letter that reads ‘Thousands of cars cause congestion, pollution, kill and injure animals. Measures that reduce these problems are to be welcomed’.
I choose to live without a car, as do plenty of other people. I wish that non car owners (and, to an extent, minimal car users) could be seen in a much more positive light, especially as many of us are people who do our best to look after our world for future generations.
Although there have been great improvements over the years in Southampton’s cycle lanes/facilities, we still put up with plenty of appalling cycle routes, horrendous junctions, dangerous cycle lanes, terrible surfaces and potholes on busy cycle routes. Yes, I do email Actionline regularly, but potholes only get filled if they are a certain depth, so cyclists have to wiggle around the worst holes for the sake of their bikes and bodies.
To those who get annoyed with bicycles, remember this: it’s one less car in your traffic jam, one less lungful of pollution, one less potential killing/injuring machine on the roads.
