I AM writing regarding the NHS’s decision to pay for brain tumour patient Ashya King’s Proton therapy.

As the mother of a child who is newly in remission, I am disgusted that the NHS has been forced into this course of action.

All of the parents at Southampton General Hospital want the best, most appropriate treatment for their child. We would all rather not have the immediate or long term problems which come with conventional treatments. However most people trust their consultant to recommend the best treatment available and are more than happy to follow the hospital’s advice, knowing that the NHS does not have a bottomless pit of money.
