SO the City Gateway development in Swaythling has delayed its opening for a year.
Rumours in the area that the building was unsafe, not to the standards required and that the university does not require it at this time appear to be untrue.
The truth is that this development was not wanted by the people of Swaythling and has led to the closure of two local businesses and the loss of the only local youth facility.
Not bad for a project designed to regenerate the local area.
As a local business I would like to thank the council and the developers for the hassle and loss of business this monumental blunder has caused to myself and other local traders over the past two years.
Perhaps I can suggest a new name for this building, Southampton’s Folly, because that's what it appears to be.
MARTIN SYMES, Swaythling, Southampton.
